Tried that. Didn't work. Better off just taking off the 2 pieces of plastic and doing it the right way with the adjusting nut.

Be better off with a slightly hopped up elite 50. Your gonna need a motorcycle endorsement, plates and insurance to ride that thing and you cant even take it on the highway. I already have motorcycle endorsement. I also know about the plates and insurance. In AR, 50cc's are highway legal (but not i...

Never let friends ride your scooter. Seriously.

I went against my better judgement. I have a 55 year old friend who has ridden motorcycles and ATVs all her life. She has a $40k Goldwing trike and a 4 wheeler. She has been riding motorcycles for some 30 years. She got on my Spree and barely got 150 feet away before she crashed it. Luckily she's ok...

Considering buying an Elite

Due to limitations of the Spree speed wise and other issues, I may be buying an older Elite 80 and selling the Spree. I have my eye on one and will be emailing the seller again next weekend to see if it's still available (when I'll have the extra money to spare for it). He's asking $900 for it. He's...

I've heard horror stories of months to not wanting to order the parts because it is for a moped. This is why I take in the part numbers on a piece of paper and hand it to them rather than asking for a __________ for a 1984 Honda Spree. My local Honda dealer seems half decent. They gave me a free ke...

Re: stalling at idle

Could adjusting the carb help? At minimum you could try turning in the throttle screw (called "idle" by some) 1/4 to 1/2 turn and see if it does any better assuming it doesn't try to take off with that screw setting. Do the adjustment when it's up on the center stand to see if the wheel b...

If you have an impact you can take off the front pulley and do it that way I don't. :( only thing you need 2 people for is clutch disassembly and that's if you dont have a holder tool. Hmm... before you said: ....spread the rear tensioner pulley apart with your hands while a buddy pulls the belt of...

Have you checked the voltage output of the alternator? Maybe it's beginning to fail? Also have you checked the battery? The turn signals seem to mainly rely on the battery to operate. It might be that the alternator is trying to pick up the slack of the battery's weakness. I know that blinkers will ...

I really wish I could find a local moped/scooter buddy to help me out with such things. It's just me right now. Seems as though it requires 2 people to do some repairs. :/

Okay, if I am understanding correctly, the rear pulley/clutch assembly is spring mounted and you pull it outward (toward you) like this to remove the belt:

Is that correct?

My needle clip was 4th notch & my free-play is right. I don't know where to look anymore for my problem. In the carb, is there a idle jet that could be dirty? Cause when I give gas the engine is responding well but the idle just die if I don't give throttle. Could be the carb needs a good clean...

spread the rear tensioner pulley apart with your hands while a buddy pulls the belt off, put a new belt on, allow tensioner to take up slack I'm understanding pretty much everything you said except the bit about the tensioner. I don't see that in the manual. Only thing its showing in the manual is ...

I know this is an old topic but I figured it was better to reply to this than post a new topic asking almost the same thing. I have read various topics here about the replacing the drive belt but I guess I'm not grasping how to do it. I've been reading and rereading the service manual (Section 8) an...

Yes. Follow the instructions and the digram in the manual for adjusting it.
