Re: new forum member restoring 1985 spree

Actually his bystarter is working fine. The scooter starts and idles he said. The lope at idle generally means to rich an idle mixture. try setting the air screw to base setting and adjust from there. Yes you might be right, except mine would run OK too after I got into the operating temp range tha...

Re: new forum member restoring 1985 spree

Sounds like you have the same problem I did. THE CURE: Pull the bowl off the carb and in the bowl you'll barely see a pick-up hole that feeds the ByStarter (choke circuit). This was clogged on both of min. Clean that and she runs fantastic. I eventually ended up cleaning the tank and reselaing it fo...

Re: High Priced Petcock cover..

sold for 75 bucks? holy crap. I bought my entire spree, running, for 100 dollars. OK, I expect to get blasted, but I'm the fool  that paid the "Buy it Now" $75 price :surprise: . And, I too paid around $100 ($125) for my Spree. Here's my story. I'm new to the Spree community :newb:...

Re: How to keep Spree petcock in place?

I liked MiniCooperS's idea (thanks Fighting Plankton), so I made this from a piece of aluminum flatstock I had laying around. Very solid and looks low key. I might paint it red when/if I paint the cover.

Re: What is the best way to clean the gas tank on a 86 spree?

I liked the idea of a safety tab off the stud above (Thanks MiniCooperS & FightingPlankton), so I fabricated this from a piece of aluminum flatstock I had laying around. Simple and effective.

Re: What is the best way to clean the gas tank on a 86 spree?

Muratic acid is the most effective, but the surface must be treated immediately or it will rust as it dries. I began with that, but ultimately used the POR 15 kit that finishes with a coating. I've used this on 3 tanks with fantastic results. It's worth the $40 and solves the problem once and for al...

Re: 1985 Honda Spree

Check the condition of the graphics (if you care) and overall paint. It'll clean-up if it's there. See if the cover is there in front and below the seat (covers petcock). '85 has no kickstarter other years do (I added it to mine). Check carb aspects of operability. Check for rust in tank. Everything...

Re: Why are there so many spree's?

I worked at a Honda dealer back in the Spree days. They were disposable, but I sincerely believe they're VW Beetle cool. I've got my Spree and my Aero. I look at the Aero as a little more exclusive, but not necessarily more special. They compliment each other.

Re: How to keep Spree petcock in place?

How about if you make the tab into the new one? Since the part you're making isn't OEM then you don't have to feel too guilty about improving on it. I just bought a new cover myself, and I decided I was going to silicone on a lanyard cable on the back and attach it to that stud above. BTW, how can I...

Re: ****Official Picture Post****

Funny I remember buying an MB5 brand new from Lakewood Honda for $398 if I recall in late '82. I was so into that bike. I think I may have clocked 60K miles on it. I sold it. Saw a clean one recently for $1K and couldn't bring myself to it. Instead I bought a K100RS LE 10 years newer for the same pr...

Re: ****Official Picture Post****

swap mirrors. imo the rectangles would look better on the aero and circles on the spree(just my opinion though) I might do that or just get another set of the stock ones - and turn signals. I put those mirrors & signals on because they were cheap, on the store shelf and solved the problem. Wife...

Re: ****Official Picture Post****

Oh man! How'd you score those two MINT examples? Thanks. I really appreciate that. They do look super clean, but when I bought them they were really rough. I could see the diamond inside though. Just a lot of cleaning (& carb love). These were both Craigslist barn finds. Neither has been tagged...
