I shot compressed air in through the spark plug hole and blew it all out the exhaust hole (I hope).

I cleaned the exhaust port as best I could with the cylinder in place. Quite a bit of tan dry crud in there - kinda like having the dental hygienest clean your teeth. Compression is now down to 128 lbs. Test ride tomorrow.

Replaced compression tester guage with spare. Ran a new test on the compression with the same old results - 140 lbs. As suggested, I will check and clean exhaust port when I can. Stay tuned.

Yes, I located my head gasket and it is installed. I assume it to be a stock head gasket. It appears to be aluminum. Is that correct? Don't know the thickness yet. The carbon on the head and piston didn't look too bad to me (1/16" at the thickest spots, mostly less). Gotta go. Thanks

compression 140 lbs. - why?

Spree starts, idles, runs well to about 20 mph at which point it won't accept any more throttle without running roughly. Good steady response up to this point. Head and top of piston have been thoroughly decarbonized. Spark plug is clean and tan. Why is my compression so high? Exhaust system clogged...

My idle jet clogged two times after my first cleaning (it was definitely clear after the first cleaning) and required additional cleaning of course. I had new fuel and vacuum lines and a new fuel filter. Then a new problem arose which you might want to check on yours. The chamber of the float bowl i...

No head gasket & it runs

Well, I found my spark problem and solved carb issues. The Spree runs pretty well 0-20 mph where it stops running well. Compression was high so I removed the head for carbon inspection after which I went to retrieve and inspect the head gasket. There was none! I will order one tomorrow. Anybody ever...

carb choke tip

I had difficulty starting the Spree. The choke bi-starter bench tested properly. My choke problem seems to have been in the float bowl where there is a small separate chamber for the choke pick-up tube. This is where addidtional gas comes from when the engine is cold. There is a small (carb jet size...

Conflicting compression info

The online service manual says "113psi minimum". My 1984 Spree manual says "170psi". My compression is about 160psi (cold). People with good reliable experience and info on this forum indicate that compression of 160 is way too high. My Spree is difficult to start and, when it ru...

Does anyone know what must be purchased in order to get a new float needle? Needle only? Gasket kit? Full repair kit?

Various brands of 2-stroke oil seem to have different viscocities (Thicknesses). And while they all blend with gas and do their job once they are mixed with gas and delivered to the motor internally, I wonder if the thicker oils will be pumped and pulled into the gas as readily as the injector speci...

When you twist the throttle does the carb slide (valve) move up and down properly? Some times the slide will stick or hang up in the open postiion. Make sure the slide is moving freely. Also make sure it is installed properly. The slide has a groove on each side. One runs the full length top to bott...

vette76, is it a YB4L-B? Or did you just give them volt/amp specs and dimensions and match it up?

I have discnnected the vacuum and fuel lines down by the carb. When I suck on the vacuum line I get plenty of fuel. Seems okay, although the carb probably would not generate quite that much vacumm I would guess. I have been working with a new spark plug. So I looked over my carb and found my idle je...
