My "quoted" speeds are off the dash. Does the spree suffer from the same rather generous +5mph offset as other small scoots? My friend has an internally powered GPS. I'm hoping to coax it from him long enough to take it for a spin in order to get my true speed. I love this little scooter. ...

And, any opinions on a 12 volt solar maintainer? Supposed to put out 125 mA (http://sunforceproducts.com/english/details.asp?id=65O? I used a solar maintainer for years and years on the dashboard of my 1990 VW Vanagon bus when it was parked where I worked. Kept my battery topped off nicely in the w...

What's normal take off?

My "stock" 85 Spree runs well for an old gal. I keep her very clean, spark plug is nice and brown. Cleaned the carb this season. My question is what's normal when you ride. On level ground, when all warmed up, she will start off slowly and then gradually build up to 25-30 mph. She is decen...

Do I need to remove the kick start...?

I need to clean and lubricate the starter pinion on my '85 Spree as it does not always engage the first few tries. Read on this site where this is recommended to solve this issue. My question concerns the kick starter. Mine has had this added but I'm confused as to whether it comes off WITH the cove...

Any updates to the foot rack on the Spree?

Wonder if there was ever any after market updates to the foot rack for the Spree? Some type of rubber mat that made it not so slippery when wet would be ideal. I saw somewhere where someone had replaced theirs with diamond plate but that would still be slippery, I would think. Do they make that it a...

When I called the fellow who was selling, what is now my Spree, he told me up front that I would probably not like it since I had owned a larger scooter. He said the tires were small and narrow and you really had to keep your head out of your * to ride it. He was right. There is a lot of difference ...

I cant imagine that anywhere on the internet can sell a battery + shipping and keep it lower than what you can get at local auto store or Walmart Oh, I agree. That's why I bought mine at Walmart... but, if you are ordering parts from them anyway they will probably hit you with a minimum shipping ch...

I just placed an order with them for some small items. They have the Spree decals... the smaller ones. Also found the kick stand spring at $1.21. Mine is worn. The air cleaner filters are only $2.58 from them. BTW: They have the Spree batteries for $24 (plus shipping of course) Already bought a new ...

My Spree has the kick starter. Besides the pedal part on the outside, will I need to remove anything else underneath to get to that bendix gear after I remove the cover?

OK. So throttle is what I'm calling idle.

Printed out the manual so I'm now on the same page, so to speak, as the rest of you folks.

Thanks!

I know where the idle screw is and the air mixture screw and the drain screw...

Can you tell me where the throttle screw is located on the carb and I will try as you suggest this weekend.

Thanks for the help, as always. Much appreciated!

Idle speed taking off at times

My idle speed is usually relatively low but constant with no stall out.

Lately, when I come to a stop it will drop off and then start to slowly speed back up to the point I need to almost hold back or she will take off. You can feel her trying to move forward.

Any suggestions on what to check?

Not sure if this is a similar problem but sometimes, on the first try or two, my starter spins away and does not seem to engage. Stop and try again and it will work fine.

Same issue? Should I also try cleaning and lubing as above?

Well, that gives me hope since mine had over 5000 miles on it when I bought it a few months ago.

Can you tell us what you have done in the way of maintenance... replacements, rebuilds etc. to get to the 10K mark?
