Re: '84 Honda Gyro starting issues
For what its worth, the Spree ten tooth armature can be installed into the Gyro housing and will operate just fine. I always bench test the starters before installing to verify that is spins quickly and that it is the correct rotation. Once you get your starter operating, I would suggest to check co...

Re: Cylinder Honing
I used to hone my own, but now I just drop the jug off at the local motorcycle shop, they use a honing machine and do a perfect professional job for only five bucks. I have a pile of hones of various grits, in my basement gathering dust, I prefer to have perfect professional results. I could have sa...

Re: I have a question about the headlight cover on a 85 Spre
I have not found any locking screws on any Spree headlamp covers yet. The heads of the screws use a regular number two Phillips screwdriver. But the easiest way to obtain some, is to grab a couple from a parts bike, most every large town has someone who sells used scooter parts, or just buy up a cou...

Re: Petcock cover
There is a metal tab that Honda uses to hold the Spree petcock cover on, it goes under the acorn nut. That factory part is too short ( in my opinion) and frequently that cover falls off. I simply make a longer tab and cadmium plate it, nobody has noticed that mod on any of my Spree's and the covers ...

Re: Complicated kx65 v force install if you're dumb.
Who is this guy ? The KX65 reed block fits the CT manifold, pics included to prove it. Of course aftermarket stuff requires a little fitting and filing, everyone knows that. The guy is probably smarter than he sounds and just trying to stir up an argument. But yet he cant afford $130 and wants a che...

Re: Honda Spree top end kit problems.
I also had the cheapie cylinder kit not last more than a week, I think it was the same one you used. I ended up using an oversize OEM Honda brand piston and having Metric Motorsports in Muskegon bore the cylinder to match the piston with .0015" clearance. They do great work and cheap. I found t...

Re: Starter Bearing
I use a bearing separator and press it off using a hydraulic press. You could try a small gear puller, but if you pull on the outer race, that can cause damage to the bearing. Remember to never side load a bearing when removing or installing.

Re: 85 Spree Won't Start
The bottom of the cylinder has a bevel or taper on it, the rings can be held compressed with your fingers and slide the cylinder downward. BUT ...... there are a couple of things that need to be watched closely, (1) the piston ring gap needs to be exactly over the piston ring stop pin (2) the rings ...

Re: 85 Spree Won't Start
Final drive oil, final reduction oil, transmission gear lube would all be referring to the same thing on a Spree. It is important to not let that fluid level to become low, since it doesn't hold very much anyway. It is quite easy to tip the scooter upside down with the help of a friend to empty the ...

Re: Help with an electrical problem
If you look at your owners manual section 15-1 you can clearly see that the power going to the bystarter comes directly from the lighting coil of what they call the alternator. That means that when the engine is not running there will be no voltage going to the bystarter heater. The bystarter requir...

Re: 85 Spree Won't Start
10 PSI is definitely a problem . My Gyro had bad compression similar to that, but would start if I squirted much oil into the plug hole, of course it didn't have any power or would not idle. I removed a perfect brand new piston, bored the worn out cylinder oversize, installed oversize piston and run...

Re: 1985 Spree CDI Testing & Replacement
The starter didn't fry from jump starting, it fried because; (a) it is not very strong to begin with,(b) it is almost thirty years old,(c) it was cranked on too long ( got hot ) (d) those starters are really really weak. I use only Yuasa brand batteries in the scooters I keep and the crappy cheap ba...

Re: Honda Spree is dead
Nikky The Spree uses a starter relay, you should be able to do all your testing from that connector. Once you have found the relay and printed the service manual starter circuit page, the rest is easy with either a test light or Volt-Ohm meter. From that point you should be able to determine if the ...

Re: Changing final drive on non-variated honda
The four Motocompo's we have, peak out at 40 KPH, so if your Motocompo is hitting 50 KPH, you are already ahead of the pack. I have found the handling to be substandard as compared to Spree's Gyro's and Aero's also. They are just plain cute, rare and valuable. , so we don't really care about handlin...
