How to test for clogged exhaust?
Honda Express NC50 Compression=167lbs. WOT. Head and top of piston are real clean. Port was 2/3 blocked and is now clean. I can blow air easily into one end of the exhaust and feel it come out the other end in what seems like an unrestricted manner. Is there a good way to test for a clogged exhaust?

bystarter
I put the bystarter on the bench and measure how far the needle protrudes from the body. I then use some alligator clips to connect a battery to the bystarter leads. After a period of time the needle should move (outward) a bit. When installed, before it moves, extra gas is drawn from the smaller ch...

carb
Yes, that's the connecting passage. Fuel needs to flow from the larger chamber through that passage to the smaller chamber where the enriching circuit picks it up. Put some gas in the larger chamber and make sure it slowly fills the smaller chamber.

by-starter
Did you bench test the bi-starter? The wall in the float bowl has a hole in it for gas to pass from the main chamber to the small chamber for the enriching circuit. Is that hole open?

compression?
I have not yet had the opportunity to remove the head. From searches on this forum I believe that compression of 115-120 lbs is a good range for the Spree. For some reason my NQ50 manual specifies 170 lbs. Any ideas on the reason for this discrepancy?

symptoms of high compression?
Thanks for the quick response Wheelman. I brought this non-running scooter home about a month ago and it has led a hard life from all indications. Clean carb and a fresh battery enabled me to get it running. Since I have no history on this thing I cannot confirm the symptoms you give leading up to t...

symptoms of high compression?
What are the symptoms of high compression? My 1983 NC50 shows cold compression of between 150 and 165 lbs. It seriously lacks power. It revs okay on the center stand, not so well when off the centerstand and really struggles up moderate hills. Thanks, Mike

carb bowl
Some Sprees, Elites and Expresses have this same walled off enriching chamber in the float bowl. All of the ones I've worked on had a straight hole. Carb cleaner followed by a tiny broach opened this passage. If I filled the small chamber with gas it would not flow into the main float bowl chamber. ...

speed variator pully
I was told that this 2000 Elite has had a "speed variator pully" installed. What is this?

Oil injection flow on 2000 Elite 50
2000 Elite 50. Smokes more noticably than my Spree or Yamahopper. Why? How to check the flow rate? What is the correct rate? About the same as a 50cc Spree or Aero? Is the flow rate adjustable or fixed? Any ideas appreciated. Mike
