Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

That sounds too thick. I want to change color only. I found what I was thinking of. It is a dye (RIT, I think). This process should change the materials color, not coat it. Here is a link from the Duc forum: http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=43500.0 The covers referred here is a nylo...

Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

Greetings: The oil tank is Polyethylene. Legends have told of Forumistas successfully painting this stuff, but Conventional Wisdom says nothing but Nothing sticks for long. I agree the look will improve if you can pull it off. Did you paint the shroud too? Pics? Good luck! I had the same thinking. ...

No it seems level. I was debating over putting an extension block for the shorter rear Ruckus shock. If I did, the rear tire will touch the ground when it's on the centerstand.

Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

i like this build, been following it and just figured out what i think it needs. paint the oil tank black. of course, leave a vertical strip so you can see the oil level. i think it'd make it look more complete. Yeah, good idea! I may just do that. I really like the exposed strip idea. Since I remo...

Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

Greetings: On both '87 Aero and 2001 Elite models, the Met 90/90 tire nearly perfectly corrected the optimistic Honda speedometer error. GPS was within 1-2 percent of speedo reading, personally observed. The 3.50 tire caused about a 3 percent pessimistic reading. (31 MPH on GPS = 30 on the Speedo, ...

Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

Nice observation! I was hoping it was true. But no, the elite speedo was reading backwards. I flipped it back. It reads about 5mph slow. I'm not sure if that's from the metro front brake plate or just speedo error. But yeah I tried it in hopes of cleaning up the cable routing. Back to the drawing bo...

Re: License plates, Insurance, Helmets and general confusion

Probably the worst state for scooters is California. I just shipped it from there to Michigan. If you do not keep current registration, you may be liable for back fees!! Also, any bike (50cc even) requires plates and insurance! Ouch! At least in Michigan, it is considered a recreation vehicle and no...

Re: I now have compression and it still won't run:(

Do a leakdown test. Easy to make. Just need something to pressurize the cylinder with air, maybe a small tank with a gauge. The air leak will be obvious. (crankcase = rings or ?, around head = gasket, etc). Not sure if the reed valve plays a part in compression.

Re: 1987 SE50 naked scooter project

I was wondering about that. It only came with the side piece around the fan. It does blow air over the cylinder and head pretty good. I thought that since I didn't have body panels, I may be safe. Any opinions or FHE on this? I found the fan shroud on my local dealer site: SHROUD 19620-GR1-020 (repl...

Re: I now have compression and it still won't run:(

Ok, well, that's what I've read. Sorry if it's wrong info. If it's flammable, is it combustible? Now, I'm curious. I'll try it tomorrow.

Re: I now have compression and it still won't run:(

The WD40 trick was true some time ago. Then after some time, they changed the formula and it is no longer combustible.

Good info! I also heard one drop every 5 seconds (at idle?).
