Poll: 2-stroke Scooter Online University

Guys:

In addition to the Wiki, I'm thinking about setting up an online school for training people on how to work on these bikes. I originally set the site up as a sort of information repository, and I'm thinking now about making it a more "active" teaching community.

Materials would leverage what we have here already (online books, wiki) and augment it with some other things (lessons, online, et al.)

There would be online tests to ensure that the material's been learned, which would move you on to the next bit.

Curricula would look something like this:

1) Basic troubleshooting
2) Electrical systems and ignition
3) Carburation and fuel
4) Head / cylinder maintanance and replacement
5) Drive-train maintanance and tuning (belt, variator, clutch)
6) Brakes and suspension, chassis

Possibly additional modules:
- Body repair and painting
- Seat repair / basic upholstery
- Advanced tuning (displacement, compression, pipe-building)

At the end, if there's interest, you could get some sort of certificate that said you'd completed the program. At that point I'd charge something to pay for the cert, and put some $ in the site's coffers. Not sure what that amount is, but it would be a heck of a lot cheaper than spending $20K for a year at UTI

That will eliminate the need for number 6 because after you SIAD, you will only be riding on the rear wheel so the chasis won't matter. Suspension, these bikes have none. Brakes? Oh, you mean those little hard shoes people remove to save unsprung weight.

I don't think I would desire this course but if its a way to generate revenue to avoid ending up like scooter time...I am for it.

Everything except step four would have the same basics. Step three is becoming less so with the newer scoots.

i think this would be a good idea, and even if you know alot there is always something to learn. heck im still learning not just from here but as i continue to work on them. also with automotive work it keeps changing.

I've seen some motor-building vids on You-Tube. I wonder how much of the information is already out there.

I always thought I could explain expansion pipes design better in front of a blackboard than via text.

Since I have pretty well figured out the carburetor and conquered top end with 4 rebuilds under my belt, I would have said NO. BUT... Most recent rebuild was going fine until I pulled the jug and piston flopped up and down... Bad journal? YUK. Now I gotta learn how to split the case and install the mini-stroker kit.

Fee? I'm not a cheapskate, but am semi-retired. That changes the picture. I'm not even sure I can afford the parts.
