What is the value of a 2001 SA50 motor?

Post by Gingerbread Man »

I have a chance to pick up a 2001 SA50 motor with 3,500 miles on it. A complete motor with carburetor and exhaust. It has been sitting for years and I don't know the compression. He said make offer.

$300 for a non running motor? That's crazy!!! I was thinking around $100-150 max.

300 would be like a super clean running motor with extras thrown in

id say your on the right track with price......... so offer 50-75 and see if you can get a smokin deal on it

just make sure it turns over and doesn't sound like rust

I agree, start as low as you can without insulting the seller. Pay attention to how it feels when you turn it over, good way to negotiate down is if it feels like bad crank/bearings.

I'd say $150-$200 depending on condition.

Good luck!

When a guy won't set a price and wants me to make an offer, I usually say, "I don't want to insult you, but will offer you XXX, and we'll go from there". It's at least a starting point and gets negotiations rolling.

How does an engine "run" without a carb, no cooling shroud, no exhaust? Somebody has a problem with the truth.

Wow, this guy was jacked up. As it turns out it's a some what a complete elite sr. Frame, motor, rear plastic - middle piece, good tires and rims, forks, wiring harness, handle bars, throttle tube, head light, gas tank w/no rust, oil tank. Every thing else is trashed, broke, junk! No carb, or exhaust! Kick started is messed up, I will turn over by hand but, the kick starter dose not spring back and you can rotate the kick started 360 degrees. It has a title but he wants $125. I had to pass for now. I seems like too much $ to spend. I will have to sell a Spree or 2 before I buy this. I would project spending at least $300 to get in great shape.

What do you think?

I think you could easily get your $125 back from it if you decided to part it out to us...but throw a $100 offer at it and if he bites, you can have a free, probably even profitable learning experience.

I agree, it is amazing what a hundred dollar bill waved under his nose will do.

youve probably got him by the balls, i mean, who else is gonna BUY a trashed up scooter, probably nobody he knows. Somebody might take it for free but i doubt he can actually find somebody to give him money for it, unless he wants to part it out on ebay

id offer him 75
