Help me out guys and gals!

Post by NickKimosabe »

Ok so I have recently sold an extra car and have a little bit of money to finally pick up a scoot. 2 months ago my sister purchased a Yamaha Razz from a local guy off of craigslist who rebuilds them. It has been a good little scoot. So I called him up to see what he has.

So I went over and checked out his 1987 Honda Elite. It has 900 original miles. He has cleaned the carb and gas tank,it has new tires, new piston rings, new new plug. It has been painted maroon. It starts and runs well. He is asking $550 and will NOT come down.

I also found a 2001 Honda Elite on craigslist. It has 4000 miles and needs and exhaust. He is asking $575 but will come down to $500. Here is the ad: http://louisville.craigslist.org/mcy/1814097164.html

So they both run well, which one would you guys pick up. I am leaning towards the 87.

if i'm not mistaken, which i could be, the newer one has a faster engine.
i think they 87 is a glorified spree motor... i could be very wrong on this, the 87 could be either the elite, or the elite s so...wait for the "elite experts"

Go for the newer one. There are more after market parts for that one

The 1987 is a nice elite too.

It is not a not a spree engine. It has the afo53 variated engine.
new best 1/8th mile time 9.647 seconds @67.155 mph 310lbs total weight

Im with TJ on this one. I own both, but swapped in a af18e motor into the 87. Also the 87 elite was a one year production so panels are rare and hard to find.

What will the exhaust and gasket run for the 2001? The other thing was that it has 4000 miles as compared to 900

Do you guys think $500 is a fair price on my part for the 2001?

If that 2001 was in my area, I would have already bought it and you'd have no choice but to look elsewhere. :P

Go get it.

i paid 500 dollars for mine and it had 5300 miles on it. i've got it at 8300 miles now. just as long as the engines strong, should be good. as long as it isn't smoking like a freight train.

agreed with everyone else. The 94- 2001 is the most sought after scooter of the 2stroke honda line
