My karma is on a major high this week. First the surgery on my foot was not as bad as first thought and I am walking on it already (surgery was yesterday). Plus the doc that did the surgery say he can make the porokeratosis on the bottom of my foot quit hurting after dealing with it for 10 years, I am jubilant.

Then while looking for a carb for another Aero 125 owner I find what I've been looking for, the instrument package with the tach in it for my Aero 125 for less than $25 plus shipping (around $12.50).

My speedo/tach instrument cluster arrived. Pretty nice and the speedo reads in MPH and Kilos. There is also a resettable trip odometer, which seems to be another feature we Americans did not get. Very cool.

I'd like to see a pic of the new gauge cluster.

So now that the 80 is running again, I will turn my attention to the 125. So Tuesday (Monday is a day at the private shooting range with 5 other avid shooters) I will pull the carb, drain the tank and replace the non-working petcock and swap in the instrument cluster with the tachometer. It might even get started if the carb isn't too bad. Then again I do have a spare carb.

It lives, well at least the engine runs and it moves down the street. There are issues however. Either the clutch is slipping real bad or the belt is bad or the variator isn't variating. Off the line is lousy at best, the Aero 80 is 5 times better. Top speed is the same as the Aero 80 or right around 40 mph. So tomorrow the left side cover comes off and I will see what is what. I do have a spare belt at least so hopefully that is it.

Oh and it smokes to high heaven because of the 25 to mix in the gas tank along with the oil pump, but hey for an engine that hasn't run in 10 years it is a safe way to go.

Greetings:

Good work indeed! However I differ with the assertion that the oil surplus is "safe". Flash 4.1 ran at least 25 degrees cooler when I drained a 25:1 tank in favor of 32:1, so I don't believe this is trivial.

If we assume that the 125's pump delivers something around 60:1, then your engine is inhaling something like an 18:1 fuel/oil ratio when 25:1 is added to the tank.

If you didn't re-jet to compensate, there is a good chance it'll overheat even a stock engine. Without a temp gauge, you won't know until all that oil bakes itself onto your top end. Oil is good, but too much fouls plugs and quickly raises compression when soot accumulates. The plug will be impossible to read, too.

The lean mix could also explain some of the performance issues, aside from the worn tranny parts.

Consider remedying this oily situation?

True to some extend. However this is a stocker and until the rebreak in, after 10 years of sitting is done I'm not worried about the extra oil. As the fuel level drops I will add straight gas and the oil ratio will drop and after a couple of half tank fills the oil tank level will have dropped and I will know the pump is working. Besides that I am operating with a cooling system designed to handle my 125 cc and not one being overtaxed with a 50% increase in CID. I don't view this as the same circumstances.

Just curious to why the euro version is in MPH instead of KPH as the main type of measurement?

My fav of a Honda scoots is the Aero 125!
I'd rather be riding my Aero!

Can't tell you why it is in MPH on the outside and bigger numbers and KPH is smaller and inside the MPH, but it is. My instrument cluster came from England. But I have seen one from Thailand and it is the same.
