contessa vs corsa vs 51mm ruima

Post by evilone »

Just wanted to hear your guys thoughts.

First of all the highest speed limit where i ride is 45 mph so i want more of a stop light to stop light ride. I will run it 50-60 mph for short (2miles or less) runs at times. I only ran Malossi 72cc in the past but would rather not cut my case for the Malossi boost port this time. I was reading Daywots descriptions of the corsa and contessa, both are rated at 11.7 hp but the corsa is hand ported from the factory which adds about 9 mph faster top speed which i don't feel i will need. I want dependability and will not need 70 mph at all, 60 tops would be fine. OR....i already have a Ruima 51mm but that would also need boost port case work.

I think my setup so far will be a V8 pipe, Polini for Ruckus variator, and 9:1 gears. CT mani and OKO carb too. For my in town needs taking the highest speed limit of 45 mph into account, what BBK would you guys go with? I just don't want to buy both the Corsa and Contessa to find out. And you guys in Hawaii, don't recommend the Corsa and 7:1 gears since i will NEVER take the highway . And i want it to be on the tame side since i ride with the wife 80% of the time. Thanks!

I've run both the Malossi sport and the MHR, which I currently have. The Malossi sport will easily take you to 55-57mph, but you will have to match the case to the boost port.

When I used to own a Yamaha Zuma, I had the Polini sport kit (basically the Contessa), and it ran beautifully. I didn't have to do anything other than upjet with a stock carb.

For the price difference of the Polini Contessa vs the Corsa I would get the Corsa, just in case you have to make a quick getaway from a cager.

the niksal bore that wheelman used to run does not require case cutting.

that is a 78cc I think.....and pretty reliable :thumbwink:

Hmmm, the nikasil base gasket in the nikasil kit from Daywot looks big. Maybe i'll just run my 51mm Ruima without opening up my boost port. Then when it kills the piston i can get a Corsa :thumbwink:.

I'd like to hear more replies.

I've run multiple 50mm/51mm bores without cutting the boost port, runs fine to me. Maybe not at max potential, but I can always go back to a stock cylinder if I need to.

That's good to hear. I ran my Malossi for one season on an un-ported case then ported case the next season. I wasn't sure if a Ruima could handle it, but it sounds like they can.

Contesta is a good street bore kit, bolt on.

I had 72cc dio contesta 5,500 miles was reliable riding.

the yamaha jog Contesta changed plug once a month than a dio motor contesta changed plug every couple days.

Greetings:

The DayWot Nikasil I had came with stock 16-size boost port. I suspect there is more than 1 version, as some report an 18- size port. I strongly recommend matching case and cylinder. Otherwise the gasket isn't squeezed from both sides and will eventually leak.

The Nik is a VERY stout, heat-resistant kit; even Early Wheelman tuning "skills" couldn't faze it.

However unmodified, it has low compression and is no match in performance for either Italian brand.

A higher-compression head and/or port work could make it so. Never tried myself.

That sounds like a waste of money. Do it right the first time and there is noo need to "kill the piston"

I know, but i tried selling the Ruima and there was no interest. I wanted to put that money towards a Polini because i want to keep the stock boost port. I doubt i will kill the piston since i will regularly be riding at 35-45 mph. I'd rather use the Ruima rather than just let it gather dust. Thanks for the input guys, ya got me brain-storming :D.

Why is it $20 more to ship a Corsa than it is to ship a Contessa?. Looks like shipping goes up as the price of the big bore kits go up. Is Daywot the only supplier?
