I am wanting to put a 48mm BBK in my '87. But I want to know if there are any negative side effects of doing so. Also, do I need to get anything else to go along with it, like gears or anything? If so, where would be a good place to find those parts?
THANKS!!!

More power
Better performance
Con:
Cost money to buy
Takes work to install
Reduced fuel economy
Reduced engine reliability
Needs aftermarket intake system to get the most out of it
Needs aftermarket exhaust system to get the most out of it
Oh and skip the Dio unless you have lots of money and better than average mechanical skills.

It may seem strange ( or it may not) but these gentlemen are correct. If you are looking for dependable speed get an engine from a 94+ elite and you will be happier and probably spend less money on jets/carbs/kit etc.
I suggest swapping a Kymco ZX 50 in. Larger 12" rim, wide tire - great speed.

You will also need to get the head opened up for the largerbore size and have the head recut for a squish band for that size bore. You are limited bylowed and top speed as the spree is a non-variated motor. If you put up gears ,you loose some lowend takeoff.if you keep the stock gears your topspeed will be about the same maybe another 2-3mph more but that's it. At least you will get to your topspeed faster and have more torque to climb hills. That's the plus side of adding a bigger bore
Nothing like getting stroked!

Re: What are the Pros and Cons of a BBK?
Another con is that a BBK requires more oil than the stock delivery system supplies so on the road fill ups are not as simple with pre-mix.

Do you have to pre-mix once you put in a BBK or will oil injector suffice and do that for you?
