Class laser-cut Project

Post by wiguy05 »

We had a major cutting project for my Industrial Lasers class so I decided to make a cool HONDA logo nameplate. Went through drawing it out in AutoCAD2010 and then cut it out on our big laser cutter. I made one with red acrylic and one with black and just swapped out the "inner" pieces for a sweet look. I still have to glue them in place (they are only taped on the backside) but I think it turned out pretty neat.

Man.... I graduated high school in 1997, and we never had anything but drafting, CNC, and graphic design. I wished we had laser cutter teaching when I was in school! That would have been a really fun and beneficial class!!

Wow those look great!

And i thought our CNC was cutting edge. I heard from my instructor that in '04 our high school was still pulling metal out of forges and beating on it with chisels

Crazy stuff!

Thanks everyone, I'll try and get some finished product pictures tomorrow.

It is a CO2 laser with an 18" x 18" travel bed. I believe the kerf is about 1/16" :2thumbs:
