Is a Honda Dio 49cc hard to find and desirable?

Post by donut »

Morning -
I'm a newb with a new scooter adiction.
My mechanical skills are nill at this point but I'm not scared to read a manual and take a shot at repair (bad experience with a local shop in putting together my 86 Aero...still kicking myself for not attempting it on my own...besides the $ savings, I would most likely have all the screws in place to my plastic pieces...live and learn...)

Is a running dio (asking $550) worth negotiating for? Appears complete. If $550 is steep, what is fair?

Thanks in advance...I keep reading posts here, but still have a ways to go in my scooter degree...

A dio for $550 is a good deal :imo:

why is the dio so great? unrestricted motor? will it hit 40 (stock) with a 140# rider?

Is it an actual dio or a elite sr? Pics would be nice.

something doesnt look right, the air box is wrong and the nose is too pointy, does it actually say honda either on the sides or the small plate on the bottom, does the motor say af16,af18? SA50?

Looks like a dio to me. $550 is a good deal, I've seen the engines go for $350.

What country are you in?

thats a jdm dio af27. you need to get a aftermarket cdi or get a US cdi from any of the variated af motors. the jdm ones are rpm restricted.stock your good for around 40-45mph. is that bike from canada?

Current owner bought it from a friend and believes it is indeed from Canada.
Thinks its a '92
Needs a battery, has 2500 Kilometers but only goes 25-30 (I did not ask how much he weighs..)
Plan to take it for a ride tomorrow, any advice on what to look for? (I will definitely confirm the af27)

Thanks for all the feedback thus far, really appreciate your expertise and time.

Greetings:

Killer bike with the later AF27 mill. Pity the restricted Communist Ignition Module. Might be able to use This One.

look at the vin. it will tell you what model bike it is. on the engine back on the gear cover will have numbers too. dont really matter. its a jdm dio and you can do tons of stuff to it.

Good bike, Nice find. That is a Jdm scoot badged Dio SR usually exported to Australia, New Zealand and Canada and some other places. It has the Af18e motor. Same built like the Af27 like baka said but headset differs from the Superdio Af27 sold locally in Japan.
