Sounds like you're talking about the float bowl, not the insulator.

My bad, we were talking about the insulator and i thought we were still talking about that . Page 4-6 in the manual shows the float bowl gasket and yes it needs replaced if damaged.

I've had one upside down not knowing they were asymmetrical. On the flipside, I bought a Spree from someone who said he could never get it to run and it was because of the insulator upside down.

You're gaining SO much experience by doing all of this. Keep it up.

Thanks Brad this board has been very helpful. work has come to a stand still because I had to order the carb gasket kit from honda but I'm starting to feel like maybe i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was really ignorant of the functions of the various systems in any automobile really, but I don't feel that way anymore. I'm feeling good about it.

OK looks like today I'm gonna find out how I did. Hap's Honda called and my carb gasket kit has arrived. I'm getting a ride over at 6 and than we'll see if I did everything right! I'm feeling like today may be the day I get my first ride!

HAHA

Well I think I have made some progress. put in the new gasket.
same old story.

Using my new knowledge of the system to trouble shoot I took out the carb drain screw, and voila nothing drained which seems like a fairly clear indicator of what the problem is.
so i check the vacuum hose and sure enough it is busted on the end. it's only messed up for a lil less than half an inch so snip off the end and try to hook it back up. messed with it for a long time but i guess ill have to buy some new hoses because i still was able to get any fluid to the carb. so either i'm not getting the air tight seal it needs or something else is gumming up the works.

if theres any other stupid things that could be preventing the fuel from making it to the carb please advise.

question i have about the carb heat insulator i know for sure its not upside down but i just want to be clear on which way it should be facing. one side of it is smooth and one side has a gasket. currently i have it gasket to gasket i noticed there is a lil plastic triangle on the side and its pointed to the carb now. i have had it every way previously. if it needs to be smooth side to gasket so the gaskets are facing the same direction please let me know.
i feel like the triangle which i have newly discovered on this heat insulator is there to tell me something, but the best i can figure with my english/triangle dictionary is that the triangle wants to point one point at the carb, but who knows, maybe it's just there to trick me.

it needs to be smooth side to gasket so the gaskets are facing the same direction.

Gasket on carb to smooth side of insulator and gasket on insulator to the intake. I hope we're talking about the same thing this time .
