dont know any upsides other than the vintage styling of course :P downsides are 4 stroke and early models have a crankcase ventilation problem that fouls the oil and ruins the seals if you dont replace the oil often

That would definitely be correct... Installed probably 4 sets of crank bearings and seals on older metros at the Honda shop... The new metros do not have the problem; I think it was around '05 Honda fixed the prob.

Downsides include just being kinda slow, but if you are willing to spend money, they can be fast!! The cool part is in japan, their metros are 4 valve sohc.

If I still had a metro, I would most definitely KEEP the "GET" model engine, and modify it. Im not in any way a fan of swapping in a GY6... aka chinese junk. Keep it a Honda!

There's ALOT of technology in that engine; I've had them stripped all the way bare to the cases. Coolest part IMHO is the magnetically driven water pump.

Another small prob is the fuel pumps on the old ones fail pretty quick. Only way to fix is replacement at around 70$.

Other than that, they are a GREAT little bike Honda put alot of thought into... Frame is beefy as *...

If you need tech help, please let me know!

I just picked up an 07 Metro and just finished swapping in a Ruckus motor. They are a bit slow but like what the other guy said there is a way to make it go fast. I like this because it has an updated style and the frame is lightweight aluminum. Best of all I can install a wider rim/tire.

This will be the looks but with different colors.

I might just say this,...was told by repair tech at local independent shop that the CDI for a Metro cost a few hundred, not a few bob.....my personal experience is limited to sitting on it, and short leg room left me with me elbows in me ear-hole.....Honda has apparently continued the tradition of denying americans the "good stuff"............................. :urban:

Very true on the "CDI" which in the metros / ruckus aka rawkus's case... It's actually an ECU / ECM...(engine control module) -Very pricey to replace. That's how I got my metro years ago; the original owner tried to wire in fog lights, and he ended up shorting the ECM out somehow. -so I picked the metro up for $200. After searching a few forums, so many people have swapped GY6's, you can pick up the ECM used for a lot less moneys...

I do like how the Ruckus' engine / transmission cases can be taken apart.
