Found 01 kymco cobra
It's my understanding that this has the same engine as the dio. Can someone confirm?
It has had work done on it. (rings redone) and it needs a coil. I found out it has a lot of miles - 27,000
My gut tells me to stay away from it. Selling it for $300.
What do you think? http://hartford.craigslist.org/mcy/2561814217.html
Basically looking for scoot that is faster than my spree so i can ride with traffic.

Greetings:
Surely faster than a Spree, but the mileage is worrisome to me too. Kymco engines are Honda-based, but looking at the kicker cover, it appears the design is very different. That may mean a limited availability of compatible gears, even if a BBK and other parts can fit to increase the power. Others will know more.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

I am not sure but that looks like a 4 stroke not a 2 stroke. Still a Scooter that is faster then a spree for sure.

Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
He just dropped price to $200 for this morning only. Interesting.
Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
Jump on that...
27000 kilometers = 16800 miles
$200? no brainer, * offer $150 but take the $200 with you...
wish I lived close...
Parts should NOT be an issue.

Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
I would buy it. What is the worst that can happen you have to rebuild the motor that would give me more reason too put a bbk on it.
Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
I couldn't let this one go by. So I got it.
Btw, is the dio engine one that mounts horizontal? This one does, unlike my spree.
I'm having a hard time locating a user manual for this. I found a parts manual though.
I need several misc items including coil (according to seller spark is yellow and not blue as it should be.)
Pedal stands for passenger.
Right mirror.
Cover for area that exposes spark plug.
I appreciate the comments made. They helped me in my decision.

Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
Greetings:
The Forum's reference to "Dio" generally means the U.S. AF 16E engine, which is a 15-degree tilted vertical engine.
Later World-Market "DIO" scooters featured a Honda-designed horizontal cylinder, and it's likely that Kymco copied that design in its later scooters. It could also be a copy of Yamaha's Minarelli engine, or then again a scratch-built Kymco design. In any case, if your cylinder is lying flat, the U.S. aftermarket "Dio" parts are less likely to fit. For sure the pipes won't.

Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
Thanks wheelman. I should have time tonight to really take a look.
I do not have any local sources for a coil. So, before i donated my money for a new one, I wanted to know if there is a means of testing the existing coil fitter?
A seller from hawaii seemed to imply that his will fit my kymco and among others a nq50 (which I believe is mybspree?). I was wondering if I should try swapping my spree coil to see if it will install on my kymco or can I possibly damage either the spree coil or the kymco electrical system if I try it?
Thanks

Re: Found 01 kymco cobra
google kymco forums and ask the members there about parts, etc.
very helpful (not as many members though...)
I plan to go by my local shop regarding my People 50 so let me know if you want me to check on anything for you.
(this shop is one of four and they do have a decent selection of used parts)
