How long does the oil last?

Post by japennell »

On my way in to work (10 mile ride), I noticed the oil light flickered twice. That means to me that its getting low (though the light is not solid yet.)

My question is how much more riding might I be able to safely perform as I do not have access to any 2t oil at my office?

Thank you for your opinion.

this may sound stupid, but im not sure how much you know. The oil tank is not like that in a car. In a car, if your oil is low, your hurting the motor. In these scooters (as far as the oil tank is concerned) it either has oil or it doesn't. Its similar to a cars fuel tank. When you actually run out, is when you have problems. With a half a tank it will probably last several months.

I never let the oil light come on. Every 5th tank, at the most, I fill the oil tank. I would suspect I could go 10 tanks but I am not gonna chance it. Besides that if the light system fails, you burn your motor up.

I as afraid my advice would be taken as saying, don't worry filling your oil until you run out. You can do this with the fuel and be fine, but run out of oil once and the motor is toast. That being said, Half a tank of oil, when the light comes on, would probably last most people several months, if its not a daily driver. Certainly enough oil to get you home to put more oil in.
