Well I got the beast today. It needs a little tlc, fenders are cracked up. I bought it not running and ended up getting it for 300$ with a title. Pulled it apart, the carb was completely clogged in every hole possible lol. The fuel petcock(or whatever its called) was clogged up, cleaned it out with an air hose, put new fuel lines on and filled it with new fuel, mixed 40:1 with castor 927 oil and 20 kicks later it fired right up. Running exellent, pulls a steady 25 mph up hill and 35+ down hill. I still need to put a new spark plug in. I checked the exhaust for the restricted plate and its not there, I dont know if it as drilled out previously or if it has a different exhaust on it. I havent checked behind the variator yet to see if the washer was removed.

i hit 32-33ish on flat ground, Im assuming the variator is still restricted. I'll pull it apart and find out later. I also need the 78 main jet, currently has the 68 in it. I tried putting the clip all the way down on the needle and it would just bog when I went to take off.

I'll be ordering a couple new jets tomorrow along with a variator and rollers. What jet size do you guys reccomend? Which variator and what weight rollers? I am about 500 ft above sea level.

what are you going to do.. run the stock air filter box?? or run premix ???
if i was you i would get what the book saids and get one size biger as well..

if you open the second hole on the air box i would use a #78 jet and zip tie the oil pump wide open, assuming it works. if it doesnt then thats a new inning in the ball game. also think and a set of 9:1 gears.

Ok thanks. Yes the oil pump works, I wasnt sure at first so I just premixed as well. I read somewhere that if I zip ty it, it will give the motor too much oil at idle? Where do you guys recommend ordering the gears from? I'll get the 9:1's, 78 and 80 jet, and variator all at the same time. My air filter is a bit worn out, so I should probably get one of those as well. It would be nice if there was a place that carried all of these parts but I cant seem to find one.

definetly get a new filter,for the 9:1 gears hit up tazland001(chopchop*123 on e bay) he might have some. i got a (prodigy) rumia vari and run 7.7 gram rollers from polini. or you could get 7.5 from molassi. oil pump should be fine zippped open. you might also want to put what 70:1 to 90:1 premix in the tanks as well. the elite s oil pump does not pump like the elite sr oil pump.

Taz carries 8.4 and 9.8 gears. VT carries 9.1 gears.

Pulled the rollers and variator out, they all have flat spots. Im guessing there is noone in the US (besides Hawaii) that sells parts for these? Im anxious and want to go faster this week LOL :coolcruise:

Any place where there is nice weather year round will have rollers in stock. Several shops in cali and fl.

Hope it does the job. Im going to pick up a couple main jets from the local honda dealer on tuesday. Im hoping with the combination of these two I can break 40 mph. What do you guys think? The variator kit comes with 9 gram rollers. I need as much top end as possible considering one of the main roads to get pretty much everywhere in my town has a 40mph speed limit.

Now for the gears; Im leaning towards 9:1 because thats what everyone has reccomeded, do I have to pull the motor to put these in? If so I may just wait and do a bbk at the same time... Can I run a bbk with stock exhaust for now? Will I need a carb?

you can run a bbk with a stock exhaust but it's preferred not.
you would have to retune after getting a new exhaust.
i'd just wait until i get everything and get it dialed in just once.
a bigger carb is recommended if you're going to upgrade with a bbk and an aftermarket exhaust.

it all just depends on what is an acceptable top speed for you.
i'm currently running a detuned fully ported engine with a stock carb and stock air filter
only because I have no need to go faster than 50+
I do mostly city driving where the speed limits are 25-35mph with traffic usually running 40mph or less.
Just keep in mind what your goals are for your build. =)

You can run a bbk with stock carb and exhaust if you want. A setup like that with 9to1 gears can still get you to 55mph with lots of lowend grunt plus it will be good on gas.
