Am I correct in thinking that I would need to modify the restricted CDI, swap out the Boss for a non restricted one and change the roller weights to get better performance?

Go back to the Kymco forums, as there are multiple threads
The 2012 will need the simplier CDI modification (no sawing...), and yes the Boss/weights (all three happen together...
and many suggest switching the variator in conjuction with the above.

Please note mods are this model are MUCH more limited than on any Kymco 2T model.

I'll be sourcing the above later today...as the vitality is soooo much slower with much less power than any 2T Kymco 50 I've ridden....

Have you ridden both models you are considering?
Riding both "stock" will be an eye opener...

No, I have not. The only scooter I rode since my Spree was a new 09 50cc 2t Like. It felt like my Spree.

In the meantime, I found a Kymco ZX50. The seller says it's a 4T but I didn't think they made any 4T's.

He's asking $1500 and it has 628 miles.

The pics look like the scooter is in mint shape.

Is that motor similar to the DIO?

Basically the difference between the dio af18 and the kymco zx is a larger clutch/trans and 12in rims as opposed to the 10in honda. Also the zx is restricted by some kind of washer in the variator and I believe the CDI is restricted whereas HOnda restricted generally by plate on the vari and a washer in the exhaust. Price is a little steep though I would think

ZX is a 2T

http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Kymco/ZX50/ZX50.html

Price is quite high, check out what they are new....
Maybe $1200...but $1000 is where I would want to be even with the low miles..

IF it just got listed, I rather doubt it will sell for that much... IMO...let it lie for a few days...
then make your offer...
IF the seller "pops" the ad up every day...it sometimes indicates a need for funds...which works in your favor...
and if he doesn't "pop" it, well letting it stale also works in your favor...again these are just my opinion...

PS - the fact it's listed as a 4T will also work to your favor... 50cc 2Ts are much more in demand ...

Well his posting is almost 2 months old. That explains why its still there.

In the meantime, I found an 05 zx50 for $1000 and it has 2,650 miles. So, I am going to see if I can check that one out.

They claim 100mpg and top speed of 47mph. Is that reasonable?

100mpg you mean and yes its possible. Since it has an aftermarket exhaust I would be confident to say it may indeed reach the 47mph...at least 45
