86 Honda Spree with rebuilt AF16
Anybody care to take a guess at the value of an 86 spree with af16 engine swap is worth? SEF ramp plate, oil pump plug, daytona reeds, and arreche 17.5mm with a few assorted jets. Has petcock and original 84-86 glovebox. My buddy wants to buy it and I dont really want to sell it honestly. Just trying to get an idea of what others would pay for this? The only difference in the pic is better shock mount location and black glovebox instead of red and has a rack with turn signals and a basket:D

Kewl I was thinking 600 myself but my buddy is trying to talk me down to 450. If I wanted to sell it would be one thing but since I dont he is going to have to pay what I want or he can go get him a china bike

Re: 86 Honda Spree with rebuilt AF16
I don't know much about Spree buying/selling, but I am an antique dealer and I can offer you this:
An item's true worth is constructed out of two factors:
1. What you're willing to let it go for.
2. What someone is willing to pay for it.
Also, you must separate your sentimental value in order to sell something, as it's completely priceless.
One other misconception that I'd like to mention is that just because something is old, doesn't make it valuable.
Consider your location:
If you're selling your Spree in the middle of sticks Maine, you could probably get a crab farmer's son to give you $250 for it. If you're selling it in the middle of Chicago, you might get $800. It's all relative.
That is all.

Why do you think a spree/dio is worth so little?

Re: 86 Honda Spree with rebuilt AF16

Re: 86 Honda Spree with rebuilt AF16

Re: 86 Honda Spree with rebuilt AF16
its just because people want the stock setup if they wanted to spend more they would just buy a dio.graphite9 wrote:I just sold almost the identical setup, but in a spree with no title for $550. If it has a title, ask $700. No title, $5-600. Its strange because in my neck of the woods a clean spree with title will fetch $550, where a dio spree will only fetch $1-150 more. I don't think people know what dio motors are. I'd tell you buddy to get bent unless he can come up with more money.

Both are initial asking prices and have little bearing on a final sale price.Trafficjamz wrote:Craigslist for a stock spree in your area.wiguy05 wrote:$500-$600 IMO.

I would put money on the average scooterista not being interested in a "high performance swapped Honda Spree". You are looking at a very, very limited market for this bike and stock Sprees are worth $400-$450 unless they are pristine condition.
If I had $700 in my pocket, I'd look for a good condition SA50. They can be had all day long for that price and will be dead reliable and not have the potential headaches of a swapped scoot.

Re: 86 Honda Spree with rebuilt AF16
86 spree with dio and 50mm taiwan bore 28mm carb, not sure brand neither did he sold for 750$ and 88 elite with dio and polini contesa sold for 800 here in st louis both with titles and original parts came with them. I met the person who sold them both. His asking price was 900 for either, I told him let me know how much he sold them for so I know when I go to sell one of my toys.
On a side note I bought a 89 elite off of CL for 75 bucks, ran with title. Prices vary always.
In my opinion the dio is a way better engine than the af05e.
