changing the spree front end?

Post by Dingus Khan »

my last bike was a dirtbike so i don't really care about it a whole lot, but was thinking of disk brake setups on the spree. if you have swapped your spree front end to anything different please post pictures or links to threads. as always your time is appreciated.

You'll need to reinforce the frame. Cutting and welding. Check the scooter builds section, I think Tjamz has a step by step guidance.

i cut the dio stem off and welded the spree stem on with a dell down the middle then bolted it back up it was harder to make the trims fit .I used a AF28dio zx front end .I actually bought a complete good condition dio zx from japan then stripped it for the motor and front end

Perfect excuse to buy a welder and let er rip :-D that is if you don't already have a welder and know how to weld.

graphite9 wrote:Just get a decent welder. A nice miller or Lincoln can be had for around $550. Its all about setting the heat and wire feed correct. A lot of cheap machines don't give enough adjustment.

I've got a $600 lincoln 180hd and I have been using the life out of it for ten years. Its never needed any repairs and its always worked 100%.
I agree although im cheap and still use my 200$ flux core rig ;-)gonna drop the dough on a nice machine as soon as i have dry place to store it

graphite9 wrote:^^When it comes to welding stems, mounts, and such, the cheap machines either burn though, or they don't penetrate well. Especially with these lightweight frames. You have to get the heat just right to penetrate the metal, yet not burn through. The cheap welders are great for playing around with, but not something you would want to trust your life with. The stem/tree/mount is all thats keeping you alive at 50+. Look for a used quality machine.
thats why id never mod my frame with that setup ;-) it can be like welding chocolate

Welding a used sumac front end may be more economical. Same tire size as a ruckus.
