Another Crazzzzy idea-------------ya ready---ski attachment

Post by islandbayy »

Ok, so, been pinging around the idea of a ski attachment on my elite for a number of years now. Ski's as in Mini-ski's. Thinking about making a adjustable mount.

That way, I can ride my Elite during the winter, with no fear of tipping or sliding out, as if i tip too far, the ski will support me.

knobby tires on back, a single ski on front..but i would have to assume that the tire on the back would have to be a lot wider? skinny tires cut through snow while wider tires float on it.

I tried this onmy four wheeler. Brand new knobbies in back, skis in front that were the worn out skis we replaced on a 1979 Arctic Cat Jag 340. I didn't even move, I just spun out.

no, not skis attached to the wheel. I am talking about ski's extending out to the sides, as a tip measure.

2 snowmobiles here. '79 Arctic Cat Jag 340 fan cooled, and my '86 Polaris Trail Indy 500 (488 fan cooled), that I bought for $500 with the odometer just turning 1000 miles (1000.1 miles). The thing is like new. And it really screams. It had dirty carbs from sitting when I bought it, and at redline (like 6800 rpm), it would only do 40. The Jag 340 can go faster than that. I cleaned the carbs, and took it down the driveway. Halfway down the driveway (long driveway), I was doing 50. :D And I was a long way from redline. It also has a studded track. I only put 20 or 30 miles on it, so far, since I couldn't really drive on the ice last winter (we got heavy snowfall, and caused water to come up on the ice on all the lakes, and it was all slush).

On the four wheeler, I'm glad I didn't make real mounts for the skis. I just ratchet strapped them to the front tires. :D

2 tracks might be too much load for it. My suggestion-
Get the parts from a cheap "snow scooter." It's like a cheap minibike thing made in china with a narrow track. Anyone ever seen Mattracks? They cost a fortune (almost as much as the four wheeler itself costs) for a four wheeler, but look interesting. I'm considering welding up 2 my 2 wheel drive four wheeler. I'd use cut up snowmobile track, and suspension from an old snowmobile. Or I'd just by some better snow suited tires for the back. Tracks would be good for plowing snow, though.

I went to the junkpile, but couldn't find the track I had seen there. For anyone who knows what one is, it was a cleated track off a '70s snowmobile. It got moved somewhere for a gravel pit to go in. I'll have to scoot there tomorrow, and dig some more. I'll cut it into a strip 4-6" wide (haven't looked close at the track or how it would go on the scooter). It will be driven off the wheel.

I was thinking about it. I have a large milk crate full of US820/Powerbee 10 hp 134cc 2 stroke engines, one of which is somewhat scored, but must have 170 PSI compression. It has really high compression, even with the release on. That would make an interesting homemade snowped thing. :D
