Fuel pump

Post by curtis966 »

I'm thinking about running a floor mounted tank and was wondering if any one was running a fuel pump on there modified af16's? I'm not 100% sure about how fuel pumps work in the first place lol. Has anyone had success with this? Thanks!

Yeah the minuki was what I was looking at. What about a dio style pump? Arnt there dios that have floor mounted tanks? And by overflow and flood out do you mean while running Or it will flood the carb after its shut off?

Greetings:

No experience with the fuel pumps, but common sense suggests the stock carbs and aftermarket ones for Elite have a float valve designed to handle the pressure of a few inches of water; the gravity feed. If the pump generates a bit more pressure than that, the float valve won't stop fuel from overfilling when it should. The Dio pump works with the stock Dio carb, so I suggest you look there.

Is the mikuni pump one that a snowmobile would use? An issue I noticed with the snowmobile fuel pump is it seems to not have a one way valve in it. So when the vacuum stops the fuel can drain back to the tank. Got one to replace a Honda Odyssey pump which has some sort of seperate bypass valve that I think is supposed to fix that issue. I'll report back when I have more time with the Odyssey.

Talk to DSD his Dio has the set up you are looking to do. Not sure how it would work on an elite though

Your mik pumps are pulse style and won't flood your carb. We use them on karts with all sorts of carbs. You can even reduce or enlarge the length and diameter of the hose to help regulate flow. Same as using a reducer. Problem is every carb has to have its float set up proper. As far as needles and seats, I'm assuming your talking about the needle valve. Which as long as your float is set up proper and flow isn't outrageous there's never any issue. I forget which part number it is but it's the 14 lph pump not the huge one.
It can be done, is there any benefit tho. No. Is it necessary for floor board tanks, yes. Can you fit a floor tank in a sa50, no.

Dio pumps are case pumps, you have to get the pulse from after the reeds which is fed by a nipple by the oil pump on the super dios etc. You can tap below the reed cage on most larger protruding style intakes. Ct, stage 6, naraku etc.
I would do the same for the mik also, much more relevant pulses.
