Safety First!
I have poked around here and did a few searches, but didn't see anything specifically related to safety gear. What safety gear (if any) do you guys wear when you ride? Helmets, Jackets, Boots, flip flops, and t-shirts? I'm close to getting my Elite back on the road, so I'm starting to think about preserving what's left of my middle aged body lol.
Re: Safety First!
I use a tatherned hoodie(double liner), my riding jeans(kevlar) and a trekker fly. Some of these guys where tshirts and sandals so I feel at least im doing something right.

Currently, I do jeans, a T-shirt and recently bought one of those crazy hi viz orange helmets. Kinda goofy but the idea is to be seen. Think I might glue some deely boppers to it lol.

Re: Safety First!
I seam to never learn and just ride in what I'm wearing at the moment. I had an incident earlyer wearing just blue jeans and a hoodie this winter with night time riding and a small patch of ice ,My knee is just now back to normal and now I'm gonna need some new white elite lx rear panels
Re: Safety First!
It takes a commitment to YOURSELF to "gear-up" every time you ride.
You do it for your family, and friends who would be encumbered by your incompacitation should you be injured.
There are times we all ride without having the proper gear, I am guilty too.
But, to be sure,
ALWAYS wear your helmet,
GLOVES with protective qualities,
LEATHER shoes that provide ankle support and protection,
SLEEVES of at least DENIM,
LONG pants of hearty material,
EYE protection
Remember, it's not IF you go down, but WHEN you go down.
I am a rider of almost 50 years experience, and have every confidence that I WILL be
forced to the ground again before this year is finished.
The last incident happened when control of the bike was completely taken away by
a SLICK condition beyond my control.
The picture is my elbow, wearing a DENIM jacket, that took full brunt of pavement at a mere 25-30 mph.
The denim jacket was NOT torn, and this injury still occurred. If I had been wearing a tee-shirt, certainly this injury would have taken all flesh off, down to the bone, and surgery would have been very likely. As it was, i got by with ice-bags and antiseptic cream. Here is my hip which was also protected with denim pants.
Anything less than denim would have resulted with some painful injury that would have required far more medical attention.

Re: Safety First!
I've been riding scooters and motorcycles for literally about 10 years, and have never been down. The people that say you will eventually go down, are the people that need help staying up.
On road rash, I gave my brother my ballistic motorcycle jackets and he went down at 45 miles an hour while wearing it. It had body armor and Kevlar shielding in the elbows and other pads. The jacket was fine, but his skin was all gone. Those jackets don't really help a lot. Unless of course you're doing over 40 miles an hour, which not a lot of us do all the time.
I do my best to stay up, but if I go down, I go down. Ftw

Re: Safety First!
Lots of good responses! Any recommendations on lightweight breathable jackets as it gets stupid hot here in Florida. Gloves as well.
