Salvage yards

Post by vintagegarage »

I went over to the motorcycle and scooter junkyard in Floral City last week to see what they had for Honda Scooters.. The junkyard is organized well enough so all Honda Scooters are in one section.. I guess they had about a dozen Honda scooters, mostly picked over. If there is a Guinness record for the most junk motorcycles in one pile, this might be the place. I did find some stuff for my NX50, but no Spree frames with titles. Here are a couple of photos I took with my cell phone camera.. This shows just a fraction of the pile:

Back to the yard this morning to look for a rear luggage rack for my SB50. They actually had a mostly complete SB50, but as luck would have it, I couldn't find the luggage rack. My guess is that someone took it off to get the body off, and then just threw it out in the weeds.. Searched around and fought off the mosquitos and heat, but finally gave up.. here are some photos for your enjoyment.. see how many Honda scooters you can identify.. there are a few Razz's mixed in with the Hondas..

First, here is one SB50 I found.. after that, no more hints..

Normally they are only open on Friday and Saturday starting in September each year, but they were open today. There is no indication from the highway that they even have any motorcycles or scooters, and from the satellite view all you see is the tree canopy.. you have to drive in the gate to see anything.. here is the Google street view:

Ye gawds, that's a lot of dead bikes. Any interesting moped (Mobys, etc?) Thing with these is that the FL sun would destroy the plastics... you'd need to do a bare-frame bike to make anything work.

Do they have cars and trucks too? What's the bug / critter count like out there? Are their prices reasonable? Inquiring minds :)

prices are very reasonable and you have freedom to walk the yard unescorted.. very friendly place.. mosquito count is about 10 per cubic feet of air.

I was gonna say... that much vegetation and Florida weather gotta make for a mosquito breeding ground.

Thanks for the skeeter report. That Jeep grille in the background made me wonder about cars and trucks.
