I'm making it a parts bike....

The place to discuss rides, accessories, or whatever is tangentially Spree/Elite-related

I'm making it a parts bike....

Post by dr.ona »

I'm fed up...
I bought this 1986 spree for $300...and I've bought about another $200 worth of carbs, reeds, spark plugs,Bystarters, filters, throttles, gaskets and it still runs like s***....

Maybe there should be a "Rants and Rave" section on this forum?

I pity the guy who didnt grow up with a mechanic. You must be doing something wrong.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

2stroke stock spree is easy bike to learn on! I'd agree he's not doing something right.. That is the scooter that got me into my hobby/obsession.. lol And $200 and a new engine and some tires later I was crusin the streets like a badass at 33mph

Check out the resources and RE-EVALUATE your situation, bet you can fix it with the right combo of parts/tuning/patience. imo
projects galore :nerd:

Yeah well you get to a point where you start throwing good money after bad...
How many times can you rebuild something before you run out of patience...I've hit that point.
I think it's in the usual place...carb.
This is my 6th Spree...the other 5 run great. But I'm not wanting to keep putting money into a bike that I may ride once in awhile...

Just pull the carb off of one of the other Sprees and see if that fixes your problem.

Did it...same thing.
Then I tried the CDI...same thing.
So I bought new reeds...same thing.
I've cleaned the fuel tank and the pet *...same thing.
Tried 2 different bystarters...same thing.
Changed out throttle assembly..same thing
Bought new adapter for between the carb and inlet...same thing.
New air filter..
New spark plug...
After doing all this I thought for sure it would be the reeds...nada.
I'll just make it a parts bike since it barely runs...unless there is something else I haven't thought of. Yeah I can be doing something wrong...but I do have mechanical knowledge and I'm not wanting to keep putting $$ into this since I'll hardly ever ride it.

Thanks!

Have you taken off the drive cover and looked around in there? Sounds like everything you've replace has just been in the motor. The clutch could be worn out, or you may need a new belt, etc...

Compression checked at 108
Sometimes it idles...but mostly not. I can rev it up on the stand but it dies if I give it gas...which is new cause before it idled but bogged out.

I'm thinking carb but I've had 2 rebuilt working carbs on this and 2 Bystarters...same thing.

I appreciate the help...I'll give it one more try but if it doesn't work soon, I'll just park it and leave it as parts...no biggie at this point.

I cooked the exaust already. This problem seems to be fuel related I think. After doing all of this..

That's the original post for this scooter....
I'll try doing the logical stuff ONE MORE TIME GOD and that's it.....parts bike.
I'll have 5 other Spree's to ride with friends/family...still plenty of fun to go round :)

Thanks for the positive advice from everyone though!
