elite SE50 vs SE50P

Post by buchholz56 »

could anyone tell me the difference between a 1987 SE50 and a 1987 SE50P. I have the SE50 and my scooter is significantly faster, nearly 40 mph, it has the factory 45 mph speedo. My brother just bought a 1987 SE50P, it looks identical to mine, same color engine/carb, etc. the only obvious difference is his speedo only reads to 35 mph. is there something significantly different between these two models? and if so can his be modified to the same level of performance as mine. thanks for the help.

Same thing happened to me. I have an 87 SE50P and brother has 87 SE50. The exhaust is different. The SE50 is bigger. I put the SE50 muffler on my bike and went just as fast as the SE50. Only 34mph though, up from 27mph. That is the only difference I noticed.

according to my 87 se50 owners manual, the elite s was the only one with the 45 mph speedo and should do 38 mph from the factory. the iowa model and the regular elite should have the other speedo

sounds like you have an elite s

i confirmed that i do have a "S" model, anyone know what is needed to convert a normal 87 elite 50 into an "S" model? the only difference that i can see is that my exhaust pipe is 1/4" larger at the head and increases in diameter before entering the muffler. my brothers is the same diameter all the way to the muffler. we took off both pipes and there were no washers/restrictors evident in either of them. thanks.

The 1987 one year only elite se50s and se50p here is the difference variator ramp plate the roller weights the exhaust and tranny gear. Ill brake it down se50p stock rollers are 6.5 grams and has a restricted ramp plate but the pulley face is the same the exhaust is different in how the pipe is real skinny going to the muffler and the tranny gear is a 12 tooth. The se50s stock roller weights are 10 grams unrestricted ramp plate bigger exhaust pipe going to muffler and tranny gear is 13 tooth .If you want to see the difference in the ramp plates there is a pic on here from chevyguyjay very obvious difference. in his pics the se50s variator is on the left se50p is on the right. There is no other difference in the two motors. Everything other than the 4 things i just listed is the same. Top speed for se50p is 25-30 the top speed for se50s is 35-40. Now for the body. Both models se50s and se50p came in two colors black and purple and red and gray. Now there was two speedo faces se50p is 35mph and se50s is 45mph.
