Clarification on Elite 50 / Dio generations

Post by DandyDan »

Hey guys...I'm doing some research on the Elite 50 and Dio scooters and I've got a few questions about the different generations that I'm hoping someone can clear up. Please let me know what's wrong.

SE50: - 1987
First Elite 50, same motor as Aero 50 (AF05E)??? Only sold in '87.

SA50: - 1988 - 1993
New frame and look but same engine? Now called Elite LX or Elite SR (same thing?), Still had the same AF05E engine as SE50???

SB50: 1988 - 1990
I can't figure this one out. Other than being called the 'Elite E', what's the difference between this and the SA50?

SK50/Dio: 1992 - 2001
Only sold in Canada, had AF16E engine. Similar visually to the SA50 but it actually was totally different (different frame, different body panels and different engine)?

SA50: 1994 - 2000
The Elite 50 got the AF16E engine like Canadian SK50 Dio. Was this the only big change? Or did they change the look too? It seems the 'LX' name is gone, so it was only called the Elite SR?

Thanks!

SE50: - 1987
First Elite 50, same motor as Aero 50 84-87 has 2 bolts intake only (AF05E)??? Only sold in '87, has 4 bolt intake 87-93 only..

So it's an Elite 50 frame/body with the Spree motor essentially?

the SB50 basically a spree motor, a spree frame, spree forks, and a body style unlike any bike.

the body style is like a cross over between a spree to an elite.

The SB50 is the bad elite to have. But it is common for people to use the SB frames for motor swaps because the SB50 frame is so light.

Cool....thanks a lot Dac!

So what's the Elite LX? Did Honda just badge some 1988 - 1993 SA50's as Elite SR's and some as Elite LX's? Or is there actually a difference?

there basically the same.

I had a 92 SR and to the best of my knowledge its the same as the elite LX. I believe honda just had LX 88,89 and 90. then 91-93 was the SR. But im not sure on this.

On 94-01 elites there are two different models, the elite S and the elite Sr. Difference being the elite S has a restriction plate in the trans and in the washer. But both of them can easily be removed so they are basically the same motor.

Thanks....I'm working on a website (www.MotorScooterGuide.net) that has info on every single Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki scooter, so I'm in the middle of a lot of research.
