I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
CORIGATED SAND TAKE 5 GAL BUCKET AND PUMP COMPRESSED AIR IN THROUGH THE BOTTOM IN A UNIFORM MANNOR ALLOWING THE AIR FLOW TO DISTRIBUITE EVENLY .SAND OR KITY LITER WORK WELL FOR THIS I SEEN IT N TV AND IT WAS CLEANING PARTS OH s*** SORRY BOUT ALL CAPS I WAS LOOKING AT THE KEYS WHILE I TYPE SO IM NOT GONNA TYPE IT OVER TO CHANGE IT LOL
I have spent a lot of time trying to make steel and aluminum parts look brand new. Unfortunately while you can make them look really good they can not be made to look new. If you take a wire wheel to aluminum you will quickly find out why it is a bad idea.
Glass bead media blasting is what I do with most things. Works great on cast iron cylinders. On steel and aluminum it will leave a satin finish that looks good and paint sticks to well.

Let's give it a try, how hard could it be?
