I finally got a bike...
So I picked up a great (or so I thought, whatcha think?) Craigslist deal.. Ready to laugh?
I bought a 1988 Honda Elite E for $200, not running. Brought it home, cleaned the carb, and in less than 48 hours I have put 98 miles on it.
I'm waiting for the guy to get with me on the back panels since I know these are impossible to find....
This is what got me - it picks up speed FAST. Doesn't seem like a Spree motor.. but looks like one. Anyhow, for $200 for a scoot with 8,600 miles (kinda high to me) didn't seem bad. The guy told me he bought it 15 years ago, last time it was run was 6 years ago.
Did I or did I not spend too much?
PICS COMING SOON

1. How much fun have you had fixin' and ridin'?
2. How badly are you missing that $200?
Hard to tell for sure from over here, but it sure sounds like a good deal to me. Funny thing about cosmetics and body panels; you can't really see them - or their absence - from the riding position. But you do form a mental self-image of how you look to others on the bike riding by...
Personally I don't care for the agricultural look of an uncovered scooter, and prefer to reinstall the skins even when I know I'll have to remove them again this evening. I like the image of the stylishly streamlined Flash of Red streaking by. But that's just me.
Good luck finding/fixing plastics.

The answer depends upon two things:Did I or did I not spend too much?
1. How much fun have you had fixin' and ridin'?
2. How badly are you missing that $200?

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.

I personally think it was money well spent. It took me half an hour to clean the carb, but I had to pull it all over again because it ran good but had trouble taking off, and burned 1/2 tank in one mile. Float was sticking.
So far now so good, running great. Even came with a brand new BPR6HSA plug and a quart of GN2

With the cost of that precious Scooterly fluid and said plug, your purchase price was actually closer to $185! Money well-spent.

DW, I'll call you once I get home from work. You won't have competition right away, as my only concern at the moment is a tail light. If the * I bought it from does not find the panels, etc, I seen some on eBay I was watching.
As for right now, the tail/rack/blinkers is a NEED. The rest is a want.

I'm trying to get pics also but I've run into a problem. One my camera's memory card reader turned up missing. Two, my cell isn't letting me e-mail pics. So will I figure that out, I don't have any.
