Greetings:

I seek thy Wisdom, O great Forum Denizens. I just acquired a bike very similar to these:

Note the lack of a glovebox or even an open slot for storage.

THe plastic and pipe on mine are similar to this one. "DJ-1" Honda Aero Sports stickers adorn front and both side covers, looks Honda-stock.

Note the sidestand alongside the centerstand. Trailing-axle front suspenders, too. Open-spring front shocks came with mine.

At least I think it's this one - all the plastic is off, but mock-up assembly looks just like the above... All-Japanese markings and NO US VIN - I doubt I can get it titled/registered here in Tejas. The very cool headlight/signals instrument assembly wants only for mounting tabs, which I can reproduce in Epoxy. The Japan-style taillight has a broken L blinker section - a little harder to fix.

Amazingly all the front & side panels are intact! - very few broken tabs/threaded holes, and nothing critical. Deep scuffs and scratches in the side panels, but sand/paintable. No glove boxes anywhere, but have backpack, will travel.

The belt cover is split a la AF16E but is it too much to hope that it's a gin-you-whine Dioid? Is the AF16-later engine the only one that uses a 2-piece belt cover?

The DJ-1 has wheels (are those 8-inchers from the Mini Trail?)

I've never seen before. The whole bike is rather compact compared even to the diminutive Aero.

It looks like a conglomeration of Honda Parts Bin pieces assembled in a way to appeal to the Southern Hemisphere - a model popular it seems in the Phillipines, South America and New Zealand.

Whaddya know about it?

Is the jugs exhaust port straight out or angled to one side?

Thanks for reminding me of this easy Dio ID method. I'll need to have a look, but I know what an Aero's looks like by heart. Unless some other parts bin cylinders have a straight-out port, I'll know tonight.

edit* the 88 sure looks to be dio based, lookin at split cover and airbox just different exhaust, still no clear pic of 87. looking into it though

edit2* check out trans cover on this 86, no split and different body has glove box, leads me to believe dio block transitioned into 87 hmm

Well, not right at the doorstep, but 205 miles round trip from Deepinnaharta to Houston. 'Tis a big state.

I'm not so sure about the luck - danged cheap, that's for sure - but if it were a run-of-the-mill SE50 I could at least know what parts I need. This thing is in the Fifth Circle of Weird. I mean, the saddle, the plastics, the headlight and instruments - all Furrin'-lookin'. Plus the absence of a recognized VIN means it'll be all but impossible to tible/register.

hmm per hawaiin exchange, only dj1RR has dio style motor, so now question is yours RR?

otherwise dj1 may have se block, however i've never seen an se block with split covers!

based on latest hawaii posts, find out if its dj1R or RR, either should be dio style

87 japan DJ came with 8 or 10 inches wheels was sold in japan market!

8 inches wheels are factory honda japan and not sold in america!

i saw a yamaha mint, the JDM version of the razz, it had 8 inch wheels as well, cool! that just means more tire, less wheel! some 5.0x8's????haha

yup

mint head set got small front turn sigs and rear lens under a main body panel.

dont forget to drop in a vert jog motor and ride sleeper look and mod motor. haha
