To Rack or Not to Rack?

To Rack or Not to Rack?
Ever since i put the jdm light on the rear of my 2001 SR, i feel i lost all utility by removing the rear rack. But the other day i needed it bad. So I need some opinions: Do i put the rack back on or leave it off. I like the smooth look but miss the utility.

Re: To Rack or Not to Rack?
I must agree with wheelman here... As I usually do on just about EVERYTHING that he post.
Having the same question with the 96 that I just purchased. But I probably wont ride it much, so it's more of a question of keeping it "showroom stock", or cleaning up the lines a bit (jap light, no rack). Rather than functionality.
My vino doesn't have a rack, and whenever I do beer runs I just set the 18 pack of tecate on the floorboards and stabilize it with my feet. It usually gets a few smiles as I pass by people to.
That being said, the Elite has a lot of space as is between under the seat and the glove box, more than my vino (no glove box on it).

Re: To Rack or Not to Rack?
How does the rack mount with a JDM-style tail? Doesn't the brakelight pod hold it up?
I'm faced with this same issue once my Hawaii box arrives.

Re: To Rack or Not to Rack?
Once I get a JDM tail I plan to remove my rear rack. I see no real use for it, theres already a TON of storage on the thing.
I can also attest that the underseat storage will hold a 12 pack o' beer with the seat latched. Trust me on this

Wheelman declares:
It is indeed.
I draw your attention to the pic at left. Upon close examination, you may discover a "MKII CruiseKing BikeTrunque(tm) {aka: egg crate} afixed to the stern of the scoot on the left. Suffice it to say it's a handy accessory - not only for stowing groceries and stuff - but also for providing x-tra cornering thrills when its max 11 lb capacity is exceeded twice-fold.

Greetings:
Captain, you know I love you like a brother, but I wouldn't be much of a brother if'n I didn't give it to you straight:
The CruiseKing Bike Trunque MkII? Not so great in the looks department. Now, I'm usually all about utility over looks, function over form, and using whatever's lying around. Normally. I can barely name the primary colors, much less tell which goes with what. Ms. Wheelperson says I'm Pigmentarily Challenged. But even I can tell that thing does nothing to make the Flying Yam more attractive. Maybe if you found a red one? Orange??
Please, I'm beggin' ya! Don't make me call SPS* for Esthetic Neglect.
I'm sorry. Somebody needed to say it. It was a Intervention, from a place of deepest concern.

Wheelman - gives the true skinny:

Indeed, sir. Having been an (award winning) cinematographer in my previous life, I am well aprised of the mechanics of color behavior. Most assuredly I agree, the current hue of my MKII BikeTrunque(tm) is lacking to say the least - and sux the big weenie at worst.
However, as many budget-minded two-wheeled enthusiasts have discovered, the essential structural ingredient (egg crate) of the venerable MKII series is normally in short supply, and one is left holding whatever color-challenged bag of sh*t happens to be available. Hence the most cost effective aesthetic improvement begins inside an appropriately tinted can of spray paint.
Simpy put, your articulate, honestly given advice - is well taken.

On my 87 I took off the front storage and the rear rack, there is no under seat storage.
