Spree Foam

Post by adark248 »

Didn't feel like this was really a "technical help" kind of post:

There's foam inside the panels and since this bike was never cleaned and apparently was bulimic before I got a hold of it, there's oil and gas spewed all over the foam. Do you guys just rip the foam out if it's horrible? Replace it? If so, with what? I'm assuming it was meant to serve a purpose, but I can't think of anything... maybe a nice layer of blubber for the winters? Seems like insulating an air cooled engine would be a bad idea.

I would assume that this foam is there for sound deadening, rather than heat retention. I'd venture that you'd be fine without whatever is very soiled.

Its sound deadening.
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.
