very good oil, I have also used Saber 100:1 and am waiting for a case of Interceptor 50:1 so I can compare all three

Valvoline 2-Stroke Injector Oil
Same stuff he bought! lol. Works. Smoked at first as expected as we put a little under the spark plug. No smoke after that and it sounds a * of a lot better! Normal now ;)
CPR and a pint of blood, and the death angel is cheated out of another scoot.

Yup, now i just need to figure out why i have to give it so much gas just to move at first and call it good for now.

I have to give it like a 1/4 throttle before she'll take off.

Seriously dangerous as my old man jumped on it and wanted to go slow to get the feel and ofcourse having to give it that much gas before it would budge and when it did it would jump on him was scary cause he was trying to hard turn at the same time.. He never road one before so.. heh i was yelling at him to stop and get off before he dumped it.

Never go leaner than 50:1 will cause engine damage whats going on with your scooter you have to rev it to get it to go.
check.
Roller weights
Belt
Clutch
Clutch springs
torque spring
you will find the problem in there somewhere

Well i dont mix the oil myself.. I use the oil pump like designed.

Its probably the belt as i guess wear on the sides of the belt matters just as much as the teeth of it.

You've got to be kidding me....

He has a stock bore Elite S, why on earth would he need to premix? The stock oiler is more than adequate for non-big bore engines.

The edge of the belt is what gets grabbed and then squeezed, the teeth are to releave the heat and keep the belt together when it is going around the pully (in basic terms).

Thanks for the decription! yeah i figured i need a new belt.. Forgot about the belt when i was trying to figure out why the take off was jumpy.

On my original 88 Elite LX it dont shift in top gear and i'm assumming its worn clutch pads.. If i'm wrong (hehe) please explain how the clutch works and when it grabs.

Shiftless Elite

Greetings:

Failure to shift isn't a clutch issue. Your variator rollers may be worn. Open it and see.

When you're as bald as I am, you don't need a hairdryer anyway.

Now did we get so far off base? I'm trying to learn about belts and variators and we got into hairdryers. :?

Welcome to internet forums, but I digress. What was your specific question?

Nothing specific, just trying to learn. AND a little bit of lighthearted sarcasm for when I was scolded recently for getting off thread. Not by you but by another... Threads do digress, it's the nature of the beast. :?

Back on the serious, I've pretty well conquered the powerplant, at least adequately enough to develop a pretty powerful motor short of stroking. But I do need to learn the powertrain, how to get the power from the engine to the wheel. I do believe I could do better on my NQ50 on takeoff, and the SR50 hotrod (80cc overbore) has more than enough power, but takes more throttle than I think necessary to get moving... then it's launch time... I think it's belt time on both scoots.
