i know this is the wrong area but...
noone seems to look much in the non honda area. but can anyone tell me a little about a yamaha xc180? i might trade my fa50 and 100.00 for it, it looks great just a couple small scratches, i was told it runs good just might need a good carb cleaning.

Re: i know this is the wrong area but...
hard to say but you might be o.k.
IF it doesn't run when you look at it it's a grab bag...
might be simple fix(IF you can work on it yourself)
or it could be a load of bollox.

DeLuxe? Very nice. Digital dash and self-canceling turn signals. I'd rock that. Here's my '83 XC180K:

Re: i know this is the wrong area but...
It's a twist-n-go. Honda and Yamaha's 150-250cc scoots from the '80s had the foot brake still. It qualifies for a vintage tag now, much to the chagrin of the "vintage" guys.

Re: i know this is the wrong area but...
that is a worthless 4 stroke, the honda nh series and italjet formula/dragster are vintage= know your scoots!
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
Re: i know this is the wrong area but...
Maybe in your mind it's worthless, but it's been a reliable bike since I got hold of it.
As to the merit of four-strokes, take your angst to the EPA. Cogito ergo scoot, regardless of operating cycles.
As for vintage, Arizona calls 'em such once the machine is 25 years old. Therefore, I can tag it accordingly.
And yes, I know my scoots. That's why I haven't needed to drag any of 'em to a mechanic yet.![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Re: i know this is the wrong area but...
i've read repeatedly that honda's 4-strokers (though less powerfull than their 2-stroke counterparts) are some of the most stupidly reliable, low maintenance machines ever.maddog wrote:that is a worthless 4 stroke, the honda nh series and italjet formula/dragster are vintage= know your scoots!

from the standpoint of modifications, yes they are more limited. that does not make them worthless.
and the term "vintage" is simply a reference to the age of an item. *, i can get a "historical vehicle" plate for my 1984 chevy caprice wagon on merit of age alone. ya' wanna' buy a "vintage" car???

Re: i know this is the wrong area but...
Agreed. My '87 CH80 is pretty reliable. Gas it up and change the oil every thousand miles. Admittedly, I've spoiled it with new brakes, tires, a drive belt and 8g rollers at 9K, rear brake cable and a muffler (original fell apart three times before I gave up on re-welding it; too rusty). It won't wheelie or top 50, but I can romp the throttle for 150+ miles and not worry about it. (Note: It goes 102 miles on a fill-up, so it has to stop occasionally.)Spreetard wrote: i've read repeatedly that honda's 4-strokers (though less powerfull than their 2-stroke counterparts) are some of the most stupidly reliable, low maintenance machines ever.![]()
Worst part of the CH80? The older (made in Japan) examples literally try to shake themselves apart on extended full-speed runs. Loctite and torque wrenches are your friends.
