Why is 86-87 Spree faster than 84-85?

Yea I just swapped the the piston from an 86. It looked ok. buuuut. Its rattling "piston slap". Its intermediately at idle. Cant hear it when reving. Kinda slow too. I even put the 86 head on as well.

I went ahead and ordered a new top end from taz STOCK.
I noticed a crack around the bolt hole on the reed cage as well when taking it off I must have smacked it too hard. But its got a nice intake. You can see the difference in the porting.
Ill look around ebay and see if anyone has a 86 reeds and cage for the spree.
I also noticed a little bit of light peering through the reeds.
Whoever owned my donor spree bike was using crappy oil I could tell by looking at the top of piston and head. It had some nasty chunky build up at 3400 miles :(
So I cleaned it up :)

Oh no! Yea I'd go with the fresh rebuild kit from Taz, I had the "piston slap" happen to me before too, I ended up selling the motor on eBay just to dump that problem and let someone else deal with it  Anyways, I would look too for a new set of reeds, someone out there's got what your looking for. Also do you have any other parts off your donor spree you won't ever use and would consider selling? I'm picking up Monday 5 frames that aren't completely disassembled I'm gonna rebuild, so any extra plastic parts, mufflers, all that stuff will help a ton, but we'll save that for another topic or PM me. Thanks!

I do have the muffler for it. This donor bike is rusted to * though im sure you could bake it sand it then paint it though. The only thing I got that was really good out of it was the kick starter. I bought one from a guy on ebay a while back that had cracks in it and the pulley was trashed from rust so I didn't wanna use it.

Lemme know. Ive never sold anything from here.

So when my Stock taz kit comes in should I use my 86 head or the 85 head?

Maybe we can trade intake and reeds for my muffler haha

Will it make it run funny?
Which year of the nh125 should I pick up. They are like 12$ on ebay

That's not a problem! I have a guy about 5 miles from me that has a massive sand blaster, I took a whole bunch of spree medal parts to him back in March, and he made them parts look like new again, so rust is never a problem with me! :) If you want, email me a picture of the donor bike, we could probably work out a trade for the part(s) you need. I'll PM you my email.

Either will work, personally I haven't seen a difference at all with the 84-87 spree heads. Go with whichever one is cleaner :)

You could, it may make it better or worse, or maybe even no difference. If you have a complete 86 spree carb, I would use the 86 one. This one I'm not so sure on, I've always had bad luck playing with carbs and all that so I always let my friend who knows em better work on them for me

Now for the NH125 CDI, it plugs in just like the spree one does no problem, however, when you give it the gas you do notice a difference that isn't right but once you get going it makes it FLY! I'm not sure what causes this and I'm still trying to pin it down, I want to always run it in my spree because of the much better speed increase, but like I said when you give it the gas it kinda makes it run a little funny, but once you get to enough RPM's it stops that weird sound and will reach a top speed of 35-40mph, I hit 40 with the wind to my back  8) I would try it anyways and see what happens, maybe between the both of us we can figure out how to always run the NH125 cdi without that "Take off issue"
