Pics & Proper Permatex Hygiene
Greetings:
Yeah I wouldn't have thought of it on my own. I guess the principle is to let it set up just a bit with some thickness - finger-tight. After an hour it's pliable but no longer outright liquid so a quarter-turn or so squeezes it to its desired thickness. I suspect the final torquing will flatten it out more, but it won't disappear outright from between the contact surfaces.

Houston, We Have Compression
Greetings:
Final-torqued the head bolts to 17.5. I have no idea why I used this figure.
. It just felt right.
Everything still cleared despite base-gasketlessness and O-ringed head. Even my POS Harbor Freight drill could spin it.
Hooked up compression tester:
![Image](http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6606/compr143psi.jpg)
142 with cold cylinder and only assembly oil in the bore. Hope she holds.
All shrouded and awaiting bargain new Keihin 24mm carb for GY-6.

Torquey Bolts & Fired Up - Pics Added Above
Greetings:
When I assembled Flash I, I followed the 9-lb. instructions against my better judgement. Despite light oil on the heads and threads, that pressure barely compressed the base gasket. And it leaked until I re-torqued later.
I decided to go by my semi-educated, ham-fisted feel. Ratcheted up the old Craftsman torque-wrench by 2 ft-lb increments from 9.5 and proceeded carefully until it felt like I was reaching the elastic limits of the bolts, evenly spaced. The point I think is to get it as tight as you can without breaking or stripping anything. Gasketlessness means a couple extra threads in the aluminum to help, too.
I want to publicly thank Scooterwerx for his incredibly fine work O-ringing my head. The scooter's I mean.
Can't fire up without incoming new Keihin GY-6 carb. I think I'll have some issues with this 4-stroke unit, particularly jetting, if it works at all. Keeping fingers crossed. If anyone's tried this, please LMK. The price was too good to pass up, there's a stock bystarter with connector, and it looks like the throttle cable's the same.

i know people running 4 stroke carbs. they have seemed to work. to get it perfect you may have to get into changing to a different needle. there was some debate on how the needle wasnt sized right for a 2 stroke. though these carbs come off all different 4 strokes so it will be different carb to carb pending where the carb came from.

4-Stroke Carb
Greetings:
Thanks, LH! At least I now know it can be done. Keihin jets and needles can be hard to find for the stock Elite carbs, but the GY-6 may be a bit easier. I plan to break 'er in kind of easy and have temp gauge to assess as I go.

Greetings:
I seriously considered stock gears for a second, for the reason you intimate. If I can't get the right belt for my Polini combination, I may have to... Stock belt on the way from Honda to try, and Scooter-Center agreed to send me an -006 Polini (for Derbi/Aprilia) 16.5x665 - an inch longer should do it. Dunno about the width...
I have two (2) stock gear assemblies and the 7.83:1 setup in Flash I. If anyone wants one of the spares for a bolt-on installable Malossi 67-6458 kit, LMK. I think I should have a bit more torque to pull that ratio once the belt issue's resolved.

Groovin' the Head
Greetings:
These specs and photos are from ALOW1. Thanks, Robert!
Ok so here are the specs I have for the head.
I am using a Mitutoyo caliper to measure with.
The outside diameter of the grove is:
2.190 inch
The inside diameter of the grove is:
2.036
The grove is cut .075 wide by .075 deep.
I hope these help:

he did per-zackly. I'd like to know myself for future reference.

Stuck...
Greetings:
I decided to break in Flash II with a proven quantity - the Arreche 17.5 is correctly jetted and likely won't blow up. However I need that stock-to-CT adaptor and can't find one...
With that and my sorted-out CVT, I'll be ready to light it up next week.
Please help WHAC locate that adaptor?

Flash II Assembled
Greetings:
This is a 2-nighter. Pulled Flash I off. Found and plugged a finishing nail through the tire that looks like it was driven in with a hammer. (^#$*)
Disassembled and swapped 8:1s, Arreche carb with '89 reed block, LeoVinci pipe and wheel onto Flash II. Here's a peek under the shroud:
![Image](http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/5047/f1polini.jpg)
Yup, still says Polini... Dirty from battle (and an occasional under-tightened plug...
but strong as ever.
Here's a stripped Flash I waiting for a decision on its fate:
![Image](http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/7749/f1sb.jpg)
Back to 11:1 gears, needs only a reed block, carb and belt drive. Maybe a nice cleaning?
The Starboard side:
![Image](http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/442/f1rtside.jpg)
Flash II reak-in will be done with the Arreche 17.5 since its jetting is known. The high-compression Malossi will warrant close temperature monitoring until it's known safe. The CT manifold and attached Keihin await a cable mod, and so they stay in the box until after break-in. I have a feeling that carburetion won't be the limiting factor.
I finally decided to shim the front pulley by 1/32", (crushed plug washer) and the stock belt now rides the top of the rear pulley. Maybe take-offs will be less painful than they've been since the Polini vario was installed. The starter pulley engages the splines, a little. Torqued it down tight. Monday night we may have ignition.
