Trafficjamz wrote:It is a kit for a car with a ballast and eveything. Only uses half the kit, so find a buddy to chip in on a kit. they are about $80 for the kit and about $25 for replacement bulbs (for 2 bulbs)odinxxix wrote:where did you get the bulb? i like how the looks, low beak could just get a lower watt lite.
The stock headlight runs off of AC current, so to do this conversion , you need wiring right from the battery and about 12 awg wire and a switch (I used the stock headlight swicth and a relay. High beams = on low beams = off)
Also note that the stock light consumes 1 amp of current. The HID setup uses 3 amp of current when in use and up to 7 amps to start up
These are REAL HIDs There is no filliment in the bulb, only gas that glows Very bright when you put 20kv to it.
TJAMZ - www.ddmtuning.com has amazing hid's and for alot cheaper the 80$ just an fyi

Run a whole new wire to the battery that can handle at least 7A @ 12v , a fuse should be put inline also.
Does this explain it enuff?

Re: HID Lights on a spree.
Have you had any issues with power yet? I had a HID on my honda Tact for awhile, loved the light output, worked great that way, but I dont think the stator puts out enough to keep up with charging the battery and running the headlight. Maybe it was just the ballast i had consumed too much?

I suspect that you are right about that one.Paul604 wrote:Have you had any issues with power yet? I have a bigger than stock battery on my spree with HID's, and always trickle charge it when it is not in use.
The HID set up does NOT work unless the battery is hooked up.
However, the battery alone could power my HID setup for hours at at time with the engine not running, so it has never been an issue.

Re: HID Lights on a spree.
any motivation to design a shield for it? the output would be more focused & all around better. Nice work otherwise!

I like blinding oncoming traffic
I honestly do not ride at night enuff to change it.
I did the HID conversion for fun.....not out of necessity.

Re: HID Lights on a spree.
Kudos man. Definitely a project I'd like to do. I did it to my Ducati years ago and loved it. I learned the hard way just how many volts it's uses to start the bulb. Ouch!
On the projector/refractor front, I'd rather been blinding people. . . . at least they know I'm there.

Re: HID Lights on a spree.
Sorry for bringing this topic back up, but I wanted to install an HID kit on my Honda Elite 89 and I've been having difficulties with the wiring to the switch. I wanted to be able to wire the kit so that the high beam would be them "on" and low beam would be "off" but i'm not exactly sure how to wire it up to a relay and to which wire. I understand that i need to wire it straight to the battery and should place a fuse in between, but what size fuse should I use.
Sorry for the newb questions. Electricals was never my strong point. Thanks in advance.

At least a 10 amp fuse should be used.carnaby23 wrote:Sorry for bringing this topic back up, but I wanted to install an HID kit on my Honda Elite 89 and I've been having difficulties with the wiring to the switch.
