The spree is not very fast "off the line" no matter how you mod it.

Why would the insurance change if you did a dio swap?

It wouldent change if i swaped in a dio motor but if i got a dio (full scooter) the insurance calls it a scooter and the rate changes basically i am in a rock and a hard place right i could go buy another spree to modify for 200 bucks its an 84 or i can get a running 1997 dio 50 sr for 300 what should i do?

The dio gets my vote.

Why is the dio considered a scooter and not the spree? Canada is weird.

the spree is considered a moped because it has a maximum speed of 30 and a dio is faster so they call it a scooter, Canada is weird haha but i have decided to stick with the spree because its cheap to insure and it is fun to upgrade and i like the look of it better.

im thinking that might need to have a new crank to match your new gear you cant just switch it out it wouldnt mesh up right

Keep the shaft the same on the crank side and change it in the pump.

If you put more or less teeth on the gear, the diameter has to change or the gear won't mess right, at least with metal gears. It is not like plastic speedo gears.

Correct Bear. That is why it would have to change in the pump if the person wanted to retain the stock crank shaft. It would be cheaper to swap a pump than a crank and pump shaft.
