Kicker cover cut in half to cool clutch?
Has anyone simply cut a clutch/belt cover in half on an AF05 to expose and cool the clutch end of things? I get a lot of heat soak and spring fade after warm up and would like to help ventilate and keep things cool back there. Any other ventilation ideas?

Yes this would be a great idea. even AF05 uses double bearing setup and no need for having rear half on there, it'll def help with heat soak

I'm wondering about dust and contamination. Is ventilation a good idea? Also exposing moving parts? I would think drilling a few holes might be better, and still provide protection from moving parts.

I was thinking of cutting out a couple sections and placing in a couple air filters because I ride gravel and dirt as well as pavement. Also, fear of the rain splashing roadgrime/oil on the driven pully and causing belt slip was another concern for cutting the cover in half.

Greetings:
Most every serious tuner with pics here runs sans cover. O'course they all live in Hawaii, where it never rains.
I would agree that mud, dust might cause issues, but that stuff's hot. I don't think anything but direct rain would cause a slip for long.

My clutch has ridden in the nude immediately after raining (not while raining) and had no issues what-so-ever.

Re: Kicker cover cut in half to cool clutch?
Thanx everyone. I'm thinkin that I'll keep two covers around and change them out depending on the weather. I can swap them in about 2 minutes without removing the panels, so no big deal. Now, where can I find someone with an extra...?

HaHa. Great story. Probably rated at least pg-13. That does make me more confortable about hittin some freak rain shower with the cover removed though.burnt_toast wrote:see here, and know you dont need to worry bout no stinkin raineliteguy50 wrote:I was thinking of cutting out a couple sections and placing in a couple air filters because I ride gravel and dirt as well as pavement. I like the way he did his vent holes, much better than cutting out a section.burnt_toast wrote:see here, and know you dont need to worry bout no stinkin rain

i took a hole saw on the drill press and cut the center out, it is much better, no more clutch fade. i am going to cut a sunburst looking vent on my aero, ill get pics, someday...
