Cut and paste...

Post by SprEE*MP* »

Totally random thought, but couldn't you cut off the the back part of the elite (the part with the gears and stuff) and weld it onto a spree, alowing for gears on a Spree? If there the same size, or close, i dont see why this wouldnt work.

if your going to go through all of that your better off doing a af05 or af16 engine swap faster and less of a head ache.

The only reason to do that is if you had a cracked stroker block with a usable rear half. Even then, the amount of work needed (making sure it is straight + spaced properly, not to mention the welding) makes it kind of like a "because I can" build.

The PITA on the welding alone would probably deter most unless their family somehow has a fully equipped machine shop that they didn't know about.

It can be done with a lot of hard work and time. (see link above)

but if you have a dio motor to cut in half, why not just swap it in?

The question might be asked "WHY". I seldom ride my wife's SB50/NQ50 but did last night. I must admit, it is more comfortable to ride. It seems the seat on the Elite LX and SR slopes and slides you forward uncomfortably. The seat is much more comfortable on the SB and I would assume on the Spree/NQ50..

I'm thinking why not drop in an AF05E variable powerplant like the 88-93 Elite. It should be an easy swap. I don't know what problems there are with an AF16E swap.
