replacing handle grips

has any one done this? is there something special i need to do? or is it just like replaceing one on a bmx bike cut old off and slide on new, im thinking of getting a different color to match closer to my new paint. no more calling me skunk from forum peeps or on the road heard about enuff of that. post pics when its all done.

yup same way you do on the bmx bike.just make sure you don't cut to deep on the throttle side or you will cut right through the pastic throttle handle.

just like bmx but you should be spray paint or something do you don't get throttle grip.

Believe it or not but WD-40 works excellent for doing grips and you don't have to clean any paint off if you have to change them again.

i can get the throttle grip my local actionmotorsports(honda,suzuki,tamaha) dealer has them in different colors, changing mine to gray. anyway painting them will leave them sticky especialll when it is really humid out as it does here in the mid west so spray paint is out of the question, and bear are you saying wd-40 before i remove or after? i was just thinking cutting them off and using alcohol to out them back on because the alcohol evaperates. ill take all the ideas i can get to make it easier

If you get lucky, sometimes you can "Blow" them off with compressed air. Just watch where you're pointing that handlebar...

Clean everything up squeaky with acetone, removing every trace of old adhesive and your greasy fingerprints.

Dealerships sell little tubes of grip adhesive, which I recommend unless you don't mind a grip sliding off mid-curve.

I can sort of see how WD-40 might work if it dries for a month or two, but it is a lubricant, after all. Personally this panzy-* wouldn't risk it.

On my big bikes, I always used hair spray to put grips on. It slicks 'em up so they slide on and you can position them where ever ya want 'em. Everyone knows that hairspray is sticky as * after it dries so it also works as a glue. Afterwords, you can use some in your hair so it doesn't get messed up while riding! I dont remember how long it takes to dry though. Just check it after a few hours. If the grip moves any, just wait longer....

any clue what size the grips are? or do they all come in one size?

most is standard but it should be 7/8 for the left and 1in for the throttle side.
