Water-cooled 50cc Honda Scooter - the Beat

I just came across this JDM Honda scooter model from 1983 while surfing. Its the Honda Beat. Anyone seen this rare bea"s"t in the US?

It looks like a fusion between the 4-stroke Elites, the Gyro rear-end and the Aero styling-wise. Check out that expansion chamber! Water-cooled with 7.2hp apparently!

Cool looking! 8)

It looks like they took the front end off of a Honda car from the gas crisis 70's era.

Greetings:

As seen in Vintage Honda Ad videos posted by someone here. The nose does a passable imitation of a '68
Mustang!

Models clad in silver jumpsuits and color-coordinated boots and helmets. It was probably all the power you could get from a Factory 50 in the '80s. I'll bet it was popular in places where a 50 was exempt from registration and insurance regs.

If you could find one, it'd be almost criminal to Dude! Swap in a Dio!!

Good find Cllivester - never seen the FC50 before.

Did some searching and found the tach was useful. There was a manually operated lever, which the operators left foot could trigger. Opened a valve - Honda called it 'V-tacs' on the exhaust port boosting power at 5500 rpm or above.

A contrasting feature is there's a light on the speedometer labeled "Speed Warning" which flashed at 35km/h and above (~22mph!)

So you think it's possibly an AF05E?

Greetings:

The Japanese-market '87 DJ-1 had the Speed Warning lamp too. Must be an Asian market thing. Good thing Flash doesn't have one. It'd burn out a lot, and then my OCD would compel me constantly to replace it.

I'm not sure of much in life, but if you axt me, Luny, I'd say the Beat engine is about as far from an AF05 as a 50cc smoker can be. Take a look at that airbox. Even the wheels are different. I'll bet it was ex$pensive and is now super-rare, even in Japan.

Nothing special really, just gold-painted CH80 Elite wheels. It is a sweet bike, though.

Further research indicates that this scoot used the AF07E engine.

I've never seen this engine associated with any other Honda scooter, so I guess it is super-rare.

Probably because it is water cooled and a hi-performance engine.
