Hondas are tough!...The pond found Elite salvage thread.

Post by Bandit240 »

Well, i got an Elite 50 over the weekend that spent some time in a pond. Well it was sold as frozen engine, wont turn over. Well after some tinkering with it, turns out the kick starter is frozen and the engine does turn over. I put alot of oil in the cylinder and turned it over a few times.

i think im just going to see if i can get it running and ride it around as it is, rusty bits and all.

Stuck throttles at 35mph are no fun.

Hey Bandit ,
Just paint the rest of it a rust color and it will all blend in nicely!

I'm actually not kidding!

A buddy found a Spree in a similar condition to yours and did just that and it came out cool looking! :)

Im going to part this guy out. Dont really need 3 50cc bikes, plus i could use the money for Jog parts.

Look for it in the for sale section soon.

I can't figure out what way to go with this thing. Part of me says part it out, you can use the money. The other side says get it running and have a cool scoot with a badass story to tell. Its not THAT rusty(even though it looks it in the pics). Ive salvaged outboard motors that sat in creeks and on the back of boats that have gone on to live long wonderful lives. I know i can save it, but at what cost? Im figuring all the eletrics are toasted. Maybe the CDI box, coil and other little bits like that might be ok, but it doesn't look good for them. The engine is on my bench and gets oil in the cylinder daily along with some turning over. It doesn't sound as bad as it did, but i know it will need a go-through.

Heres some pictures.

Now i was pretty sure i would part it out, until i did this. Now it sits in the corner of my shop looking at me, screaming FIX ME!

Frankly, I'd take a shot at getting it running for giggles. For a couple of reasons:

1) If it runs and goes, you'll have a complete bike you can sell or keep

2) Getting it running (or close) will tell you what the good parts are that you can sell, vs. what you need to scrap. If you've got a complete set of panels you're good to go. You'll have a hard sell on the rusty bits otherwise.

yes it needs to be fixed up. NOW then you need to find the person who put it in the pond and tell them how stupid they were. :ndance: :*:

I would also get it running to see what parts are good.

If you want to keep it ,clean it all up. With some time and effort it could look great again. You have nice enough panel's that's for sure!

BUT, it's worth more dollar wise to you to part it out rather than selling it as a whole. There's a much bigger audience to sell to as parts.

$250+ to ship a scoot is a turn off!
