What about finding a cheap Elite 80 ?

Could make for a larger, quicker and more comfortable ride?

That model scoot has always deserved a better engine and it would be easy to find parts.

Hmm, what an intriguing idea! I've never been a big fan of the 80's styling, but if I'm intoxicated by the 2-smoke I won't notice as much. I do like the notion of a bigger softer ride.

Technically with a 49mm or bigger bore, it's still an 80! :) I may be only an engine mount bracket away from
Dude! Swap in a Dio!! Oh yeah, and finding that frame. But you can't spit around here without hitting a used Elite 80 for sale...

I agree..... To say it gently, I think it's "beautifully ugly"

BUT..... It's really just the front end that is an eyesore (just my opinion). The rest looks fine.

Come up with something new for the front and it could be extremely cool!!! 8)

The Elite 80 is sort of like having to date Ashley Simpson after bagging Jessica. :surprise:

Front "Styling" sort of a cross between a scooter and a trash compactor. :)

With all the mud that's been thrown at the Elite 80 for looks (including myself who threw a big chunk!).......Who thinks the Met is attractive?

I can tell you I sure as heck don't!

At least the CH80 is in a class of it's own.

The Met is just a Vespa rip off when it comes to looks!!!

Never thought of that. I just assumed they were going after the Yamaha Vino 50 that was introduced in the USA market one year prior.

With only a 45 pound oem weight difference (137 vrs 172) I wonder how close the finished product would be with the lighter dio engine. Anyone know a ch80 engine weight in full trim?

Aye, there's the rub. It wouldn't be close enough for Wheeman to carry upstairs to the Boudoir! Still that 4-stroke's probably a good 20 pounds heavier than the lean sixteen. Cams, chains, valves, plus the Honda Overbuild Tendency, banking on the extra output and higher stock speed needing a more robust framework.

Good to know I'm not alone with this idea, stuff a 5-7 liter turbo diesel in there, pull up to other Priuss and take off like a bat out of * in a giant cloud of black smoke!
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Cosmic Cataclysm

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Heresy!! Parking a Honda scooter next to the Sportster would invite some sort of Cosmic Cataclysm. The HD's never leaked oil so far...

Anyway my Scootin's all done in Depinnaharta. The Sporty lives in Yellarosa.

Well, if you want light, you could always build up a Spree. Those are 88# with engine.

at least the met looks classy, with nice lines. that's what happens when you base your design off classic italian beauty.

the ch80 ....ugh. fits in well with devo, men in hats, and TRON.
whomever penned the lines of the elite 80 was sure lazy. my refrigerator has better curves.

a class of it's own? yeah... the class of '86.
it's a great, reliable scooter that got beat with an ugly stick.
