Mounting a camera.

Mounting a camera.
Has anyone toyed with the idea of mounting a camera to their scoot via the 8mm mirror threads? Only need one mirror, right? Seems like you could get (or make) a bolt that would screw into both the scoot and the camera's tripod threads.
Some of you are probably asking yourselves "Why would he want to mount a camera?" Why not? haha.

Re: Mounting a camera.
Yes. I made one over a year ago. Cost $0.27 in matrials, 10 mins of labor. Made a bunch for my friends. You can put it on any moped and use any digital camera. It works xlnt. I can adjust it to any direction while riding so I can capture some trippy vids.
You can see it here mounted on the left mirror mount. Sorry don't have close up pics of the mount.

Re: Mounting a camera.
Aluminum flat bar, 8mm bolt for the mirror, smaller bolt for the camera bottom, washers, epoxy as threadlock, wingnut to tighten the camera to the mount bolt.
Once all the parts are together and epoxy dried, I painted the mount flat black.
Simple design that works great!!!

You're not just gluing two bolts together, are you?

Re: Mounting a camera.
I'd venture to guess: Drill 2 holes in aluminum bar, 1 bolt threads down into mirror bracket, smaller bolt with wingnut threads up into camera?
How was the vibration with that?

Re: Mounting a camera.
Yup!!! Super easy. I have anti-vibe on my digi cam so no problems there. It's actually a pretty good cheap setup. I didn't level my cam so it records at a slight angle, haha. I am getting a GoPro soon. I want a setup for track days at California Superbike School.808BMW wrote:I'd venture to guess: Drill 2 holes in aluminum bar, 1 bolt threads down into mirror bracket, smaller bolt with wingnut threads up into camera?

Re: Mounting a camera.
I want a GoPro HD so bad. Best deal I found so far, makes me want to just throw it on my credit card:

And I love their example vid!
I kind of worry that all I'll have is incriminating evidence though

Re: Mounting a camera.
Just noticed you live in Kona. My bro lives there too. We shipped up the sportbikes in December. My friend Hilo-Dave met us up there. He has a 2009 Kawi ZX-10R. I loved Saddle Road(all 3 times back and forth), Mauna Kea going downhill, and Volcanoe Crater Road w/22 miles of twisties going downhill to the visitor center. Manago's Butterfish and Pork Chops FTW!!!
I wished I had a GoPro for that trip. My friend filmed the trip from his helmet cam, so we had lots of great footage.
The moped mount is only good for moped speeds up to 70mph. Any faster the image gets fuzzy from vibration. That's what I experienced...

Re: Mounting a camera.
I bought one of those Aiptek HD's pretty cheap. $65~ for 1080p w/ an 8gb sd card. They usually sell for $90-$180 so I'm happy. I can film 720p @ 60fps, which I think would be better in the long run. I can squeeze out 2-4 hours, depending on what setting I choose. Should be all I need, seeing as how the battery only lasts 90 min.

Re: Mounting a camera.
I have a blast on all those roads with my zx6r, there are some really good roads here for twisty riding (my favorite). Just wish there were a bit more secluded areas to stunt at without attracting attention. Once I get my GoPro I can film some of the glorious morning sessions I usually catch.TURN1 wrote:Just noticed you live in Kona. My bro lives there too. We shipped up the sportbikes in December.
