why did no one tell me this existed?

The place to discuss rides, accessories, or whatever is tangentially Spree/Elite-related

Probably because Honda does not want you to know about this machine that they just slapped their name on (not honda quality I am told). I don't know if they were available for individual sale but they were sold as an automobile accessory. The auto had a squared compartment that it fit into when folded up.

Greetings:

One of these boxy scooters pops up on eBay every once in a while. Fish is correct. The MotoCompo was standard equipment on a JDM car - Perhaps the Honda City? It dropped neatly into a fitted compartment in the hatch. The whole scooter collapses into a briefcase-sized rectangle. OK, maybe a really heavy briefcase, but still. Even the handlebars fold away. Honda engineers must've had fun designing this one. Presumably there's a provision to keep the gasoline from leaking all over your Guccis. (Some models even open up into a full-sized piano keyboard...)

The idea was to drive the car to a lot adjacent congested Urban downtowns, then scoot to the Office door, thus easing said congestion. But not pollution. All the good you can do for the environment by driving a 50-MPG City from the exurbs to the suburbs will be done with a single smoky stroke of the kickstarter. That and heaving it out of the trunk and deploying the bars, pegs and whatnots before firing it up must have been a bit of a chore. Maybe that's why Honda-san gave up on the whole idea some long time ago.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.
