Was it just a matter of time? My constant impetus to ride her to the limits?

Nearing 7000 very hard ridden miles, cherry decided take a much deserved break...

 Can't tell exactly from the photo. Did it break at the oil pump threads?

Seen a few of those before, what crank is in there? was it a mini? LOL If it is, that one of the things i tell people about those cranks, they have a tendency to break. I have seen them break off on the stator side as well and the top of the con rod. The most recent batch of cranks i have seen breaking are those 52.6, "80mm ruima cranks, im guessing a bad batch .As in anything , s*** Happens, Just find another and rebuild!
good luck!

Thanks for enjoying guys, I thought it was quite epic once I pulled the cover off.. :bowrofl:

And Sunjuro, it actually happened at quite some speed :surprise:

Accelerating past 55mph WOT, power delivery just seemed to lag, and all of the sudden huge clang and the worst grinding noises I've heard, pulled off to side and get this: she was still running! even started to rev up freely with no throttle, so I had to pull killswitch and assess..

And for those wondering, this was a Ruima 44.4 ministroker crank with teflon inserts, with new Honda bearings when installed. Overall happy at what I got out of it, but think next build will feature either stocker or malossi, time shall tell :)

Greetings:

Sorry for your loss, but Finally someone showing HOW an aftermarket crank failed. 7000 miles? Pretty good, I suppose.

WHOA, Negatory!! Nothing less than Hello Kitty bandage to patch.

dude that totally sucks. i had that happen to a spree one time, but on the stator side. I wondered why my flywheel busted through the plastic cover and rolled into the ditch that day... it was way before this forum was probably open. back in the mid 90's, i had one when i was like 8 or 9...

Hey Toast, you were running higher compression and stiff clutch setup too right? Maybe that contributed?

indeed, it was quite the high-performance setup for street driving, yet just how i liked her :naughty: heh

sorry i never got back to you on the compression, I don't recall checking compression after the decarb overhaul. just checked records and right before the overhaul it was at 162-165psi warmed, with kickstart, but that was with lots of carbon deposits on the head..
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10119&hilit=decarbon

more recently, i think it was about 150-155psi and felt healthy to me. ultimately it was the newly added grab from the oem honda belt i had just installed that overwhelmed the crank imo

Ouchy
Just shagged a belt on the scooter. Haven't taken the front cover off yet. Hope to see my variator spinning true yet.
